Casual Role

The Spiritual Care Department is a small and dynamic team that provides patients, families, friends and staff support as they reflect on and explore life issues which are affected by cancer.

Spiritual care draws on respect, trust and understanding in order to provide a supportive presence which honours the dignity and value of each person.

The successful applicant will provide spiritual care to both inpatient and outpatients as well as provide education to patients, their carers and staff.

We are looking for a person of deep spirituality who is both creative and innovative. 

Salary: XV10 $34.95 - $45.76 per hour plus 25% Casual loading

Essential Requirements

 

  • Two years spiritual care/pastoral experience in the health or community sector.
  • Satisfactory completion of at least three units of Supervised Pastoral Education.
  • Possess spiritual maturity and openness
  • Member of professional association of pastoral care.
  • Be able to demonstrate sensitivity in spiritual care of patients, their carers and staff.
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and use initiative.
  • Ability to articulate the role of spiritual care in the life of Peter Mac.
  • Evidence of continuing professional developoment.

 

Desirable Requirements

 

  • A Tertiary Degree or equivalent in a relavant area of study 
  • Member of the Association for Supervised And Clinical Pastoral Education in Victoria Inc. (ASACPEV)

1. Provide an excellent standard of patient care within the specialty of oncology spiritual care and provide direct quality Spiritual Care to patients and their carers in Clinical areas as appropriate

 

  • Provide a comprehensive spiritual care service to inpatients, ambulatory patients and their carers with a range of cancer diagnosis consistent with the goals of the department. 
  • Patient satisfaction with services provided.
  • Patients attended to within departmental guidelines
  • Data collection in line with departmental guidelines.
  • Maintain a high level of activity as demonstrated by patient encounters and referrals.
  • Regularly participate in the on call service.

 

2. To facilitate and implement the department priorities of professional development, research and quality activities and to ensure that these consistently inform clinical practice  

 

  • Provide Spiritual Care and related education and information to other staff groups as required.
  • Provide and deliver education to external professional Spiritual Carers as required.
  • Consult with staff in the planning of professional development activities and programmes that meets the needs of staff.
  • Establish and implement clinical audit projects and other departmental and multi-disciplinary quality activities.
  • Participate in research activities.
