Social Worker Grade 3 - Victorian Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Service

Ongoing, Full-Time Role

 

The Victorian Adolescent & Young Adult Cancer Service is a dedicated multidisciplinary team of clinicians, educators and researchers working collaboratively to support the care of young people diagnosed with cancer.  

 

An opportunity now exists for an experienced, highly motivated, Grade 3 Social Worker to join the team. The successful applicant will be an expert clinician, capable of addressing the healthcare needs of young people, a strong team player and with the capacity to provide clinical direction through supervision, consultation and education to your colleagues and treating teams.

 

This is a full-time position.

Remuneration as per Allied Health Professionals (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2021 – 2026. Social Worker Grade 3 Year 1(SC31) $102,091.60 per annum (full-time equivalent) to Social Worker Grade 3 Year 4 (SC34) $116,646.40 per annum (full-time equivalent) depending on candidate experience. Position Summary

The Grade 3 social worker is a key leadership position within the Victorian Adolescent & Young Adult Cancer Service.  The primary purpose of this role is to provide clinical leadership to the team, ensuring that day to day service delivery is safe and meeting the needs of young people.  The successful incumbent will demonstrate advanced professional skills and knowledge, a strong interest in quality improvement activities and research and the ability to develop individuals and teams.  The clinician will work with the Grade 4 and other senior professionals to guide the operational and professional performance of the Service and ensure key performance indicators and targets are achieved.

Essential Requirements
  • Qualifications in accordance with grading within Social Work and which allow eligibility for membership of Australian Association of Social Workers 
  • Minimum of 7 years relevant clinical and leadership.  This includes at least one area where the person is acknowledged by their professional peers as a clinical expert and/or has a broad and relevant clinical experience  
  • Demonstrated ability to provide expert clinical service and mentoring and/or professional supervision of other employees 
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and as part of a team 
  • High level of negotiation, problem solving and analytical skills 
  • Innovative, resourceful and adaptive to change 
Desirable Requirements
  • Post graduate qualifications in a relevant clinical area or working towards this  
  • Expertise in quality, research methodology and program evaluation

  • Provide clinical leadership, consultation, and expertise to AYA clinicians and external healthcare providers in the delivery of specialist care to young people and their families 
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders to develop and implement AYA cancer reform activities across Victoria and Tasmania 
  • Contribute to administrative/clinical meetings, educational activities, and service development activities as required  
  • Demonstrate flexibility/responsiveness within professional practice/duties/roles in order to meet organisational goals/priorities 
  • Act according to professional and ethical standards outlined complying with the code of ethics and legal requirements of the social work profession 
  • Participate in regular clinical supervision 
  • Proven abilities to provide high quality supervision to staff  
Clinical service planning, provision & delivery   
  • Manage a caseload with particular emphasis on complex/high risk cases (as negotiated with the Grade 4 clinician)  
  • Demonstrate a  high level of clinical reasoning and advanced casework skills in youth and family centred care using a patient centred approach within developmentally appropriate assessments, formulating appropriately targeted care plans, identifying a comprehensive range of intervention options 
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of relevant social work theory and its relationship to clinical practice 
  • Ability to work collaboratively to enable inter-disciplinary team work  
  • Liaise with internal and external providers to optimise care for young people and their families 
  • Maintain records to a high standard according to policy and procedures of the Service, Peter Mac and the Australian Association of Social Workers 
  • Identify and manage clinical risk issues in accordance with organisational risk management procedures 
Capacity Building, Education & Training   
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders and partner sites involved in the provision of care to young people to enable integrated service delivery.  
  • Provide expert secondary consultation to staff within Peter Mac and to other stakeholders (internal/external) as required 
  • Promote and deliver education programs across the government, health, education & community sectors relevant to AYA oncology

Research and Innovation 
  • Contribute to discussion on research planning and prioritisation for the Service 
  • Promote  research and contribute to a sound professional reputation for the sustainability of research within the Victorian Adolescent & Young Adult Cancer Service 
  • Participate in report writing and lead the preparation and submission of one peer reviewed journal submission on an annual basis with an expectation of being first author or senior author
