Social Worker Grade 2 - Victorian Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Service
Ongoing, Full-Time Role (Part-Time considered)

 
We're looking for a motivated Grade 2 Social Worker to join our team at the Victorian Adolescent & Young Adult Cancer Service. As a social worker, you'll work with young people who have been diagnosed with cancer, supporting their healthcare needs and well-being. If you enjoy working with young people, are a strong team player, and have a desire to supervise social work students - this is the perfect role for you! Position Summary

This position (0.8-1.0EFT) will be situated in the inter-disciplinary Victorian Adolescent & Young Adult Cancer Service at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.  The Victorian Adolescent & Young Adult Cancer Service provides a clinical service, education, training and research aimed at improving health outcomes for young people living with cancer and their families. 

The social worker is responsible for the delivery of high-quality clinical services to young people and their families through competent clinical skills, effective communication, and active participation within an interdisciplinary team environment.

Skills

Essential Requirements •    Bachelor of Social Work Degree/ Qualifying Master’s Degree
•    Eligibility for accreditation with the Australian Association of Social Workers.
•    Post graduate experience working in a hospital, healthcare or mental health setting.
•    Demonstrated knowledge of the application of social work theory, practice frameworks and principles, in the context of the current health care environment
•    Highly developed interpersonal skills. These should incorporate qualities of excellent communication (verbal and written) and skills in collaboration, negotiation and conflict management
•    Demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary team
•    A commitment to ongoing professional development through access to current literature, continuing education, supervision and attendance at seminars conferences etc
•    Current Working with Children Check
Desirable Requirements •    Clinical experience and skills in engaging and working collaboratively with young people
•    Experience in providing supervision to students and/or less experienced staff members.
•    Experience in the design and implementation of research and/or quality improvement projects

1. Professional Practice

•    Provide social work specific values and perspective within the multidisciplinary team.
•    Act according to professional and ethical standards outlined complying with the code of ethics and legal requirements of the social work profession.
•    Contributes to administrative/clinical meetings, educational activities, and service development initiatives of the Victorian Adolescent & Young Adult Cancer Service.
•    Provide support and professional development around areas of specialist knowledge to members of relevant clinical teams, via training, secondary consultation, supervision and other appropriate strategies.
•    Participate in regular clinical supervision and annual discussion review processes.
•    Demonstrate high level communication skills and ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
•    Student supervision.

2. Clinical Care delivery •    Compliance with AASW practice guidelines and professional standards, organizational policies and procedures.
•    Provide social work interventions such as psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, family-based interventions, group interventions and advocacy with other services.
•    Ensure service provision is guided by evidence based, culturally safe and trauma-informed principles incorporating the diverse needs of all young people and families, including those from LGBTQI+, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, and culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
•    Completes accurate, timely and professional clinical record keeping and documentation according to policies and procedures of the service and Peter Mac.
3. Education & Research •    Participate in the delivery education & training initiatives (internal and external to Peter Mac).  
•    Involvement in quality improvement and research projects as appropriate
•    Manage departmental portfolios as required.
•    Report on all activities within agreed timelines.
