Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is seeking an experienced Simulation Nurse Educator to support education, patient safety, and quality improvement within Cancer Surgery. Working in a multidisciplinary team, the role coordinates, delivers, and evaluates simulation-based education to enhance clinical skills, teamwork, and systems of care. The position collaborates closely with nursing, medical, and allied health stakeholders to identify learning needs and address latent safety risks. This role provides clinical and educational leadership, promotes evidence-based practice, and supports continuous professional development, reflecting Peter Mac’s values of excellence, compassion, and innovation.
OUR PATIENTS
Our Operating Suite provides comprehensive care for patients undergoing complex cancer surgery — from endoscopy to high acuity-acuity robotic and multispecialty procedures. We care for patients across a breadth of specialties including colorectal, upper GI, hepatobiliary, breast, plastics, urology, melanoma and sarcoma, head & neck, and gynaecology. Patients also access specialised intraoperative treatments including brachytherapy and HIPEC.

THE ROLE: WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is seeking an experienced and passionate Simulation Nurse Educator to support excellence in perioperative education, patient safety, and system improvement within Cancer Surgery. Working within a dynamic, multidisciplinary simulation team, this role plays a pivotal part in delivering high-quality simulation-based education that enhances clinical capability, teamwork, and patient outcomes.
The Simulation Nurse Educator supports the design, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of simulation activities across the surgical service. This includes collaborating with nurses, medical staff, allied health professionals, and key stakeholders to develop tailored simulation experiences for education, training, and quality improvement. Simulation activities are used not only to build individual and team capability, but also to proactively identify and address latent safety risks and improve systems of care.
Reporting professionally to the Director of Nursing Education and operationally to the Nurse Unit Manager – Anaesthetics/PACU, and working closely with the Perioperative Simulation Lead, the role provides strong clinical and educational leadership. The position promotes evidence-based practice, fosters a culture of learning and innovation, and supports ongoing professional development for self and others.
This role is ideally suited to a senior registered nurse with substantial perioperative or critical care experience, advanced simulation expertise, and postgraduate qualifications in nursing and/or health professions education. The Simulation Nurse Educator will demonstrate strong project coordination skills, the ability to work collaboratively across disciplines, and a commitment to Peter Mac’s values of Excellence, Compassion, and Innovation.
ABOUT YOU
You are a highly capable, forward-thinking c-thinking clinician with:
•Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
•Minimum of five years’ clinical experience in perioperative and/or critical care nursing
•Minimum of three years’ experience in clinical simulation
•Postgraduate qualification in nursing and/or health professions education
•Demonstrated ability to design, deliver, coordinate, and evaluate simulation-based education for adult learners using contemporary educational principles
•Proven experience in project coordination, including scheduling, resource and time management, and managing competing priorities
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Position Summary
The Cancer Surgery unit is a diverse and dynamic group of professionals working together to support simulation activities. The multidisciplinary team consists of nurses, doctors, allied health and support staff. Simulation experiences are designed to enhance patient outcomes by providing a safe practice environment to improve teamwork and clinical skills. The team is also involved in simulation sessions to proactively improve hospital systems and processes.
The Simulation Nurse Educator will support simulation providers in the design, planning, conduct, evaluation and coordination of simulation activities within the surgical service, enabling simulation providers to deliver outstanding simulation experiences.
