Senior Pharmacy Technician, Cytosuite - Ongoing Role Available - (Full-Time)
We are seeking enthusiastic persons to fill one of two Senior Pharmacy Technician, Cytosuite roles. The successful candidate will Lead the pharmacy technician workforce in the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre Sterile Manufacturing Suite by providing effective management, training and education; developing professional relationships and collaborations; and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and policies; Develop and implement effective and efficient pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, which meet required internal and external patient safety and quality assurance standards and indicators; Participate as an active member of the pharmacy team to provide safe, rational and cost-effective care for Peter Mac patients, staff, and others by arrangement.
• Applicants must have completed or be working towards a Hospital Pharmacy Technician Training course at Certificates III or IV level.
• Completed their Victorian Certificate of Education, preferably with a math subject.
• Training and validation in cytotoxic manufacturing or experience as a hospital dispensary technician are highly desirable.
Remuneration as per Health and Allied Services, Managers and Administrative Workers (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2021-2025. Pharmacy Technician Grade 4 (TH14) $71,141.20 per annum for full-time (pro-rated for part-time) plus allowances.

1. Provide effective management of the cytosuite technician workforce | In consultation with other cytosuite pharmacist managers and technician managers (where relevant): •Ensure that staff management processes comply with Peter Mac policy, procedures, Delegations of Authority and legislation. •Oversee the day-to-day technician staffing and operations within cytosuite, including the management of unplanned staff absences. •Create a versatile weekly roster for pharmacy technicians which meets the operational needs of the cytosuite. The roster should be circulated to staff at least two weeks in advance. •Assess annual leave and ADO requests against rostering requirements. •Support the professional development of technician staff and assist team members to perform their duties when required. •Monitor the performance of team members and provide constructive, individualised feedback in a timely manner. •Conduct and maintain accurate records of performance reviews including: -annual performance reviews -3 monthly reviews for rotational technicians -6 month probation period reviews for new staff -other ad-hoc performance discussions as required. •Contribute to the development, implementation and maintenance of standard operating procedures, stock management procedures, and quality assurance protocols. •Contribute to the development, implementation, attainment and evaluation of indicators of efficient and effective compounding services and implement improvement activities as necessary. •In conjunction with other members of the cytosuite management team, ensure the facility is maintained in accordance with current workplace health and safety requirements. •In conjunction with other members of the cytosuite management team, ensure that any incident reports are investigated and managed as per department policy. |
2. Lead workplace training and assessment of the cytosuite technician workforce | •Orientate new cytosuite technicians when they commence in role at Peter Mac (Day 1). •Supervise and train new staff to meet the foundation-level competencies necessary to perform cytosuite technician roles. This includes, but is not limited to: compounding; materials picking, preparation and transfer to clean room; product label generation and PBS claiming procedures; and cytosuite stock management. •Ensure existing staff meet and maintain the foundation- and advanced-level competencies relevant to their role(s) in accordance with local policies. |

2. Lead workplace training and assessment of the cytosuite technician workforce (Cont...) | •Maintain accurate orientation, training and credentialling records for all staff, including timely completion of planned probation meetings for new staff. •Perform competency assessments and validations on a regular and timely basis to ensure standard operating procedures are followed. This includes technicians on-call or those returning to the cytosuite more than 3 months since their last validation, Cytosuite technicians moving from Grade 2 through to Grade 3 and Cytosuite technicians credentialed for chemotherapy checking •Regularly assess need for additional training and competency programs to bridge any gaps in the current program or address identified production issues. •All materials required for the Peter Mac Cytotoxic Preparation Course for Pharmacy Technicians & Pharmacists (consumables, assessments and handouts etc) are organised and prepared for candidates. •Provide training to contract cleaning staff and complete competency assessments. Ensure records of training and competency assessments are maintained. |
3. Actively develop professional relationships and collaborations | •Lead and represent the specialised aseptic preparation pharmacy technician workforce at multiple jurisdictional levels and with key industry bodies. •Work collaboratively with other senior pharmacy technicians and members of the pharmacy management team to implement quality improvement initiatives and coordinate staff rostering and rotations. •Meet with sales representatives involved in the supply of non-pharmaceutical consumables utilised in aseptic compounding (e.g. CSTD, cleanroom garment, Melbourne Health Supply & Logistics etc.) |
4. Ensure compliance with regulations, policies, guidelines and quality assurance processes | •Regularly scope best industry practice and implement process improvements once endorsed by the cytosuite management team. •Ensure compliance with relevant legislative requirements, industry and accreditation standards as determined by the Director of Pharmacy and the cytosuite management team. •All standard operating procedures related to compounding and clean room handling for pharmacy technicians are fully implemented and updated to align with best practice. •Maintain local environmental sustainability initiatives within a continuous quality improvement model. •Oversee technician involvement in stock and consumable management, including: -working with the Production Manager, Pharmacy Storeperson, Medicines Access Program Pharmacist and Deputy Director of Pharmacy to ensure pharmaceutical and -non-pharmaceutical inventory is maintained -investigation and management of stock variances -provide oversight of consumables ordering, PPE and laundry garments -maintaining storage consistent with a safe working environment -safe recycling of returned medications -implementation of improvement initiatives as required. •Undertake additional reporting and evaluation as delegated by the cytosuite management team. |
