Senior Database Developer - Research Computing Facility

  • 12-month fixed-term, full-time opportunity
  • 80 hours per fortnight with monthly ADOs

 

We are looking for an experienced database developer to build and support primarily REDCap databases across a range of research, clinical and operational projects.

 

The role is 1-year full-time, with a view to the role becoming permanent. We offer flexible working arrangements within a small team within the Research Computing Facility.

 

We are ideally looking for someone with experience in REDCap, however other database systems will be considered. Much of the work is centered around clinical studies, however there is an opportunity to be innovative and creative with some of the non-clinical projects. We are therefore looking for a candidate who can think out of the box to tailor unique solutions and provide a good customer experience.

Position Summary

This role is focused on the development and support of REDCap databases for research, clinical, and operational projects across Peter Mac.

Skills

  • Experience in database development in research and clinical contexts, ideally with experience designing REDCap databases
  • Experience in database platform administration and application of institutional data policies and procedures
  • Understanding of data and data management concepts in research and clinical contexts
  • Knowledge of HTML, JavaScript and SQL
  • Qualifications in health, medical or biological studies. IT qualifications will also be considered with relevant work experience

Key Accountabilities

  1. Database development

Demonstrated by:

  • Timely design, development and testing of databases to meet stakeholder requirements
  • Migration of data across data capture platforms as required
  • Establishing and advising on the integration of data platforms for specific projects
  • Monitoring use of databases in production to proactively manage data integrity issues
  • Timely troubleshooting and resolution of production database issues
  • Providing users with advice and technical support on problem rectification and tailored database improvement upon request
  • Keeping up to date with local and international trends in REDCap database development

 

  1. Data management

Demonstrated by:

  • Performance of medium and high-level data management tasks throughout the project life cycle, as required. Includes:
    • Validation and data quality assurance
    • Data cleaning, manipulation and delivery
    • Archiving and destruction of data
  • Knowledge of, and compliance with, institutional data policies and procedures including the management of user permissions

  1. Database support

Demonstrated by:

  • Timely response to routine platform support requests, including requests that require basic development advice
  • Participation in routine platform and system maintenance, such as system validation
  • Participation in relevant policy and operational procedure development

 

  1. Data education and advocacy

Demonstrated by:

  • Participation in the development and delivery of institutional database and data quality training
  • Cultivation of a collaborative database user/developer community at Peter Mac

 

  1. Communication

Demonstrated by:

  • Clear and precise communication of complex or technical concepts to diverse range of users
  • Highly developed relationship management and consulting skills

 

  1. Teamwork

Demonstrated by:

  • Soliciting feedback collegiately to improve personal and team performance
  • Actively participating in team meetings and planning sessions
  • Identifying issues that affect team performance
