Research Officer - GENOS study 
Fixed-Term until May 2028 | Part Time Role – 15 Hours per Fortnight

 

About the GENOS Study
GENOS is an Australian investigator-led, multi-centre opioid pharmacogenomic registry trial. The study aims to determine associations between key pharmacogenomic outcomes and responses to opioids in people experiencing pain related to incurable cancer.

 

About the Role
We are seeking a Research Officer to play a key role in the establishment and ongoing coordination of this important multi-site research project. The position is integral to the successful set-up, implementation, and management of the GENOS study across participating sites.
The successful applicant will provide project oversight, coordination, and trial management support, while contributing to the evaluation and reporting of research outcomes.

 

Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include:
•    Coordinating the set-up and implementation of participating study sites 
•    Supporting project, database, and site management activities 
•    Coordinating communication and activities across multiple research sites 
•    Managing and maintaining the study database 
•    Monitoring and supporting external site accrual targets 
•    Coordinating pathology batch shipments 
•    Assisting lead investigators with study-related queries 
•    Supporting evaluation, reporting, and overall trial management activities

 

Remuneration as per Medical Scientists, Pharmacists and Psychologists Victorian Public Sector (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2021-2025. MEDICAL SCIENTIST GR2, Year 1 (RY4): $94,478.80 (full-time equivalent - to be prorated for Part Time) - Year 4 (RY7): $106,906.80 (full-time equivalent - to be prorated for Part Time), dependent on candidate experience. To be discussed with Hiring Manager.

Position Summary

The aim of the position is to support the development, project management and successful progress of a multi-centre opioid pharmacogenomic registry trial. 

The research fellow will provide oversight, coordination, and management of this project guiding the evaluation and oversight of the reporting and research outcomes of the project. The focus of this research is to determine associations between key pharmacogenomic outcomes and response to opioids in people suffering from pain as a result of incurable cancer. 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the day-to-day conduct of this research projects on an as needs basis. 
  • Direct engagement and communication with each recruiting clinical site involved to facilitate the smooth running and proactive recruitment to the study.
  • Organisation and participation in research related activities such as research meetings with study teams and dissemination.
  • Undertake collection and management of electronic, laboratory, and health service research data across all stages of the study.

From time to time there may be opportunities to contribute to other projects according to interest and capacity.
 

Enterprise Agreement

Nurses and Midwives (Victorian Public Sector) Single Interest Employer Agreement 2024-2028 (or other applicable EBA for non-nursing applicants)

Classification or Salary Range

Research Nurse Level 3 or equivalent (depending on level of experience of successful applicant)

Skills

Essential Requirements
  • Degree in science, psychology, General Nursing or health related discipline that meets the requirements of Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency or equivalent.
  • Experience in working effectively, providing supervision and management of advisory groups and teams
  • Highly developed interpersonal and verbal communication skills with the ability to liaise and work effectively with a range of people across all levels of the organisation. 
  • Excellent written communication skills with prior experience of project report writing
  • Demonstrated ability to apply research methodologies and quantitative/qualitative data analysis 
  • High-level problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise judgement and initiative, while maintaining commitment to achieving outcomes 
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Flexibility and ability to develop new skills
  • Demonstrated attention to detail
Desirable Requirements
  • Experience in Palliative Care research or clinical work
  • PhD, or research higher degree or substantial progress towards PhD in relevant area 
  • Expertise in laboratory procedures (e.g. nucleic acid extraction)
