The Cancer Surgery Department is a growing, academic-based group of surgeons delivering surgical care to cancer patients. Surgeons carry out their work in a multi-disciplinary environment within a sub-specialty service dedicated to the management of melanoma, complex skin tumours, sarcoma, breast, pelvic and head & neck reconstruction.

What you can offer Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre:-

With a fellowship in Plastic Surgery, you will act independently and also as part of a clinical team.  You will be involved with teaching and supervision of trainees and will be actively involved in research.

You are required to be a suitably qualified medical practitioner registrable with AHPRA and have a Plastic Surgery Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons or equivalent.

This is a fixed term, full time fellowship appointment, at 86 hours a fortnight, commencing 2 August 2027 to 6 August 2028.

Essential Requirements:

  • Medical Qualifications registrable by the Medical Board of Australia 

  • One-two years’ experience in surgical registrar post 

  • Experience in plastic surgery

1. Gain experience in providing the highest standard of patient-focused, evidence-based care in the peri-operative & clinic settings under the supervision of Specialist Surgeons 

 

  • Gain Experience in the following: 
  • Surgical management of all forms of skin cancer 
  • Diagnostic skin procedures 
  • Pre-operative preparation 
  • Assistance in the Operating Suite  
  • Surgical care in an oncology setting 
  • Clinics & ward based patient assessments, care planning, review and discharge management 
  • Attendance at patient emergency situations  
  • Liaise with all professional groups in delivering holistic care to patients. 

 

2. To actively contribute to regular meetings and demonstrate a commitment to business processes and policies ensuring ethical care. 

 

  • Attend and contribute to regular departmental and audit meetings 
  • Participate in and deliver on quality assurance requirements 
  • Adhere to organisational policies and procedures ensuring ethical care 
  • Provide cover for absences for colleagues taking annual /study leave. 
  • Timely attendance at clinical sessions, grand rounds & journal reviews 
  • Completion of surgical records, critical incident forms & quality assurance forms 
  • Participation in the on-call roster, with responsibilities for surgical emergencies supported by the appropriate Consultant. 

 

3. Take part in all activities that contribute to ongoing professional and personal development 

 

  • Attend approved training courses in preparation college accreditation 
  • Attend weekly academic meetings as appropriate 
  • Maintain satisfactory clinical & academic performance, reviewed every six months
