YOUR ROLE IN OUR FUTURE
This is a full time (86 hours a fortnight), fixed term position to provide a high quality infectious diseases care and treatment for both inpatient and outpatients at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and participate in education and research in the field of infectious diseases.

Position Summary

To provide a high quality infectious diseases care and treatment for both inpatient and outpatients at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and participate in education and research in the field of infectious diseases.

Essential Requirements
  • Medical Qualifications registrable by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency 
  • Royal Australasian College of Physician Advanced trainee in infectious diseases 
  • Experience in a multidisciplinary team setting 
Desirable Requirements
  • At least 1 year of advanced training in infectious diseases  
  • Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with medical staff and other disciplines across departments

1. Provides high quality patient care using an evidence based, cost effective approach 

 

  • Effectively manages all in-patients referred with infections and liaises closely with consultant staff 
  • Participates in the Infectious Diseases Outpatient Clinic  
  • Participates in haematology ward rounds 
  • All referrals are assessed promptly 
  • In-patients and referrals are reviewed at least daily  
  • Manages patient consult database 
  • Completes all patient related documentation according to the centre’s policies/procedures 
  • All complex cases receive appropriate follow up 
  • Liaises and communicates with the multidisciplinary treating team  
  • Contributes to team meetings and educational activities 
  • Actively and regularly participates in peer review patient related activities  
  • Participates in departmental research projects and audits 
  • Works effectively with all internal and external stakeholders to optimise patient care and discharge planning 

 

2. Implements best practice for antibiotic use/guidelines/infection control 

 

  • Participates in internal and external educational programs 
  • Actively participates in the Infection Control Service including attendance at meetings 
  • Assists with implementation and delivery of antibiotic stewardship practices 

 

3. Participates in research and surveillance 

 

  • Must complete one project in an area of interest
