About the team

Genetics is playing an increasingly important role in adult diseases such as as a result of greater understanding of the molecular basis of disease, and translational efforts that are increasingly enabling clinical management and therapeutic interventions.About the role

An advanced training post (Fellow) for a medical graduate with an interest in clinical genetics to work under the direction of the Director of the Familial Cancer Centre, working with a multidisciplinary team, based in the Parkville Family Cancer Centre. Clinical duties will be at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Royal Melbourne Hospital as well as some travel to outreach clinics.

The work will form the basis of specialist training in Clinical Genetics or an agreed appropriate speciality (e.g. medical oncology or gastroenterology) and will be accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. The applicant must have completed the examinations for FRACP qualification.

The working environment is collective and multidisciplinary. Good clinical, organisational and interpersonal skills, enthusiasm, ability to work independently and intellectual curiosity will all be necessary. Familiarity with basic computer skills and statistics will be an advantage.

Essential Requirements

 

  • Registered medical practitioner, AHPRA
  • Completion of requirements for Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians Part 1 (FRACP) e.g. successful completion of all examinations
  • A record of academic excellence
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Able to work co-operatively in a team environment
  • A very high level of consideration and care for patients and research subjects

 

Desirable Requirements

 

  • Interested in research and a commitment to quality in the research process
  • Experience in statistical analysis
  • Experience of peer-reviewed publication of research
  • Excellent oral and written presentation skills
  • Knowledge of clinical research regulatory requirements, ethics and governance
