Current Openings:

Ward 5A – Haematology: Care for patients with blood cancers such as lymphoma, myeloma, and leukaemia.

Skills Required: Experience in managing complex haematological conditions, administration of chemotherapy, bone marrow biopsies, and a strong ability to work within a multidisciplinary team to provide holistic care.
 

Ward 6A – Surgical Oncology: Specialising in surgical treatments for cancer, including post-operative care for patients undergoing major surgeries.

Skills Required: Proficiency in post-operative care, wound management, pain management, and monitoring for surgical complications. Experience in caring for patients undergoing major cancer surgeries is highly desirable.
 

Ward 3A – Medical Oncology: Providing medical treatments for a variety of solid tumour cancers, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other medical interventions relating to complications or deterioration.

Skills Required: Knowledge of chemotherapy protocols, side-effect management, and the ability to assess and respond to the needs of patients undergoing systemic therapies. Previous experience with oncology medications and patient education is highly valued.

Essential Requirements:

12 months recent acute medical oncology, surgical or haematology nursing experience.

Ability to engage with a multidisciplinary team to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

 

Desirable:

Previous experience in oncology nursing or a postgraduate qualification in your specialty area.

Position Summary

This position may be based in one of the following specialised inpatient oncology wards, each functioning as a distinct unit. Applicants will be contracted to one ward based on staffing needs and expertise:

•Ward 5A (Haematology): Caring for patients with haematological cancers including myelodysplastic syndromes, lymphomas, multiple myeloma, and related disorders in addition to a small number of breast oncology patients.
•Ward 6A (Surgical Oncology): Providing care for patients undergoing surgical treatment for cancer.
•Ward 3A (Medical Oncology): Managing patients with cancers affecting bone, soft tissues, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, skin, urological, gynaecological, head and neck, and brain, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, palliative care, and clinical trials.

As a Registered Nurse at Peter Mac, you will deliver evidence-based nursing care within your assigned ward, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to achieve optimal patient outcomes. You will uphold nursing professional, organisational, legal, and ethical standards, and provide supervision and delegation to other healthcare professionals such as Enrolled Nurses and Registered Undergraduate Students of Nursing (RUSON).
