About the team
Ambulatory Cell Therapies (ACT) is an integral clinical service of the Department of Clinical Haematology. In addition, the Centre of Excellence (CoE) partners will work closely with Clinical Haematology and the leads of ACT to support strategic objectives in cellular therapy. The implementation and integration of ACT will support better coordination of complex patient care that is time sensitive, with improved clinical governance and delivery. The service aims to deliver care and management of patients and donors from collection or treatment of blood components, through to the infusion of cellular products.
 
About the role
The Registered Nurse – Ambulatory Cell Therapies will have the opportunity to care for their patient across the continuum of care; rotating between Apheresis (3B) and the Infusion Centre (1E). The Registered Nurse is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based nursing care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to achieve optimal healthcare outcomes for patients. The Registered Nurse is a key member of the health care team responsible for ensuring nursing professional, organisational, legal and ethical standards are met. All nurses are supported to develop and grow, in line with Peter Mac’s values.

•    Haematology, apheresis, or medical oncology nursing experience.
•    Post graduate qualification in area of specialty.

Position Summary

The Apheresis and Ambulatory Cellular Therapies Services contribute to the care and management of patients and donors from collection or treatment of blood components, through to the infusion of cellular products. The purpose of this position is to deliver evidence-based clinical nursing care using best practice activities, quality systems compliance and excellence in patient and donor management.

Skills

Essential Requirements

  • Division 1 Registered Nurse with a minimum of 2 years’ post registration experience
  • Working with Children’s Check
  • Evidence of commitment to evidence based practice and ongoing quality improvement in oncology/haematology nursing
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and team building skills with proven ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience in Haematology/Oncology or Apheresis nursing
  • Experience working in an environment with quality / regulatory overlay
  • GMP and/or GCP certification

1. Clinical Practice and Management of Patient Care Continuum

  • Within scope of practice ensures patient needs are identified and interventions implemented in a timely manner
  • Participate in and contribute to clinical care in accordance with Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre policies, procedures and regulatory requirements
  • Support the ongoing development of the clinical services model and provide support between Peter Mac and external partners
  • Participates equally and fairly in on call and overtime when required

Communication and Documentation

  • Ensure that all documentation, policies and procedures are undertaken in accordance with organisational requirements

 

2. Patient Education

  • Demonstrate commitment to education of patient, family and staff in the area of cancer and haematology, including provision of information, education and access to resources
