THE ENHANCED CARE UNIT 
The Enhanced Care Unit at Peter Mac is an innovative unit that provides high quality, specialised care for cancer patients requiring higher levels of monitoring and clinical support. The enhanced model of care is internationally recognised. Patients within the unit may require invasive and non-invasive continuous blood pressure monitoring, advanced haemodynamic support, continuous cardiac monitoring, high flow oxygen, complex fluid and medication infusions including noradrenaline, epidurals, or intrathecal opioids. The Enhanced Care Unit is a six-bed unit and is located at Peter MacCallum’s Parkville Campus. 

 

THE PATIENTS 
Peter Mac cares for patients with a complex array of cancer types that require treatments that are integrated and carefully planned. Treatments may involve several modalities such as medicines, surgery, radiotherapy and in more recent years the growth of immunotherapies have seen significant advances. As the treatments for cancer have advanced, we have seen increased complexity and acuity of care needs for our patients. The development of the Enhanced Care Unit is to ensure we continue to deliver world’s best cancer care that meets the needs of our patients. 

 

THE TEAM 
The Enhanced Care Unit includes a Nurse Unit Manager, Practice Development Nurse, Associate Nurse Unit Managers and Registered Nurses who work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe and high-quality care for our patients. The Enhanced Care Unit works closely with the High Acuity Team including the ICU Outreach Nurses, the Academic Nursing Unit and Specialist Medical teams. There is also a strong relationship with the Royal Melbourne Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit and the RMH Emergency Department to ensure patients are cared for in the most appropriate setting. 

 

THE OPPORTUNITY 
This is an opportunity for Registered Nurses to develop their advanced clinical skills in a supported environment. The role will involve working with the Nurse Unit Manager, Nurse Educator and Clinical Leads to ensure the services within the unit align with the care needs of the patients. 

 

YOU 
We are seeking Registered Nurses with at least two years' experience post registration. Experience in ICU or HDU will be highly desirable, as will any previous experience in an oncology setting. Those applicants with, or working towards, post graduate qualifications in acute care nursing will be highly regarded.

 

BENEFIT

Remuneration as per Nurses and Midwives (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2024-2028. Registered Nurse Grade 2 Year 2 (YP3) $83,803.20 per annum (full-time equivalent) to Registered Nurse Grade 2 Year 8 (YP9) $103,152.40 per annum (full-time equivalent) dependent on candidate experience. Position Summary

The Enhanced Care Unit at Peter Mac is an innovative unit currently being developed to provide high quality, specialised care for cancer patients requiring higher levels of monitoring and clinical support. 
Patients within the unit may require invasive and non-invasive continuous blood pressure monitoring, advanced haemodynamic support, continuous cardiac monitoring, high flow oxygen, complex fluid and medication infusions including noradrenaline, epidurals and intrathecal opioids. 
The Enhanced Care Unit is located on Level 6 and has six beds. The unit has two negative pressure isolation rooms and four patient bays all with line of sight from the main nurses’ station. The unit will run 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
As a Registered Nurse at Peter Mac you are responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating evidence-based nursing care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to achieve optimal healthcare outcomes for our patients.
The Registered Nurse is a key member of the health care team responsible for ensuring nursing professional, organization, legal and ethical standards are met.

Essential Requirements •    AHPRA Registered Nurse Division 1
•    Minimum 2 years recent relevant acute nursing experience
