YOUR ROLE IN OUR FUTURE

We are seeking a senior Radiation therapist with significant brachytherapy experience to lead our Radiation therapy Brachytherapy unit.

The Brachytherapy Unit lead Radiation therapist works collaboratively with the RTS site manager and multi-disciplinary Brachytherapy team to lead and co-ordinate the Brachytherapy service at the Parkville campus. The role holds significant clinical responsibility for ensuring service quality; as such we invite applications from Radiation therapists with significant Brachytherapy experience.

The successful applicant will lead and participate in research and development, maintain Brachytherapy unit policies and procedural guidelines and maintain a heavy focus on staff training to ensure an excellent patient service.

Position Summary

Supports, coordinates and leads clinical services, innovation and research within the RTS brachytherapy service.
Works in consultation with the RTS site manager regarding operational aspects of the brachytherapy service.
Develops and publishes comprehensive policy for RT clinical processes of the brachytherapy service and regularly reviews/revises policy to ensure its currency.
Overviews procedural compliance with the published clinical policy.
Develops and maintains educational/training materials related to brachytherapy published on the organisational learning platform.
Provides expertise and leadership in technical aspects of service delivery.
Provides patient focused radiation therapy planning & treatment.
Develops and maintains a positive and safe work environment.

Essential Requirements

Current registration with AHPRA & DHS Radiation Use License
Working with Children Check
Comprehensive and current knowledge of brachytherapy planning and treatment procedures with a minimum of five years of experience in the delivery of brachytherapy services
Maintains a patient focused approach to service provision
Current knowledge of the requirements of external beam radiation therapy as related to multi-modality treatment.
Promotes an understanding of department and team goals
Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
Proven ability to manage change
Demonstrated awareness of advanced radiotherapy practice
Active support for, leadership and participation in education, research and quality activities

Desirable Requirements

Postgraduate qualification and/or experience in ultrasound
Other relevant postgraduate qualification
Familiarity with contemporary staff leadership and resource management practices

1. Patient/Customer Focused Services	Maintains efficient and effective allocation of resources to support clinical demands of the brachytherapy unit. Acts in a professional manner at all times ensuring established patient care standards are maintained Explores opportunities to maximize access through clinical innovation and management. Ensures appropriate information and support is available to patients to meet their needs and expectations. Works collaboratively with all disciplines to ensure patient’s needs are addressed in a timely manner.
2. Radiotherapy planning and treatment	Undertakes brachytherapy planning and treatment responsibilities, contributing to daily service delivery. Maintains current clinical skills and knowledge Provides an expert resource for staff to support clinical practice and innovation Responsible for the technical application of brachytherapy procedures Practices safe manual handling techniques while ensuring the safety of others Develops, publishes and updates policies and procedures applicable to brachytherapy techniques Ensures departmental policies and established work practices are maintained within the unit Supports and contributes to problem solving, procedural development and documentation Supports other RT’s to ensure qualified radiation therapists have appropriate and sufficient clinical instruction
3. Workload Management & Service Development	Contributes to the strategic plan for clinical innovation which aligns with the strategic directions of RTS Manages and prioritizes resources effectively to work within defined timeframes Participates in, delegates and coordinates administrative procedures that support departmental activity
4. Teamwork & Communication	Enables development of effective departmental teams through appropriate and effective interpersonal behaviour. Effectively leads workplace teams to achieve organisational goals Ensures the team is aware of roles and responsibilities Engages collaboratively with Clinical leads at the campus to assist in the integration of the brachytherapy service and broader radiation therapy team Supports RTS site manager to integrate and enact departmental performance development processes and outcomes.
