 Full Time Fixed Term Role

The Molecular Haematology team at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is looking for a motivated Project Coordinator to be involved in the development, implementation and activities of the Wilson Centre for Blood Cancer Genomics. Key areas of research and development within the Wilson Centre include implementation of new comprehensive NGS panel, increasing equity of access in genomic testing for blood cancer patients, development of novel measurable residual disease platforms and implementation of Whole Genome Sequencing.Suitable applicants will be highly-motivated, self-driven and patient-focussed and have experience working on genomics and molecular biology projects. Reporting directly to Assocaite Professor Piers Blombery, the position is full time (80 hours per fortnight) for 12 months. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Contribution and coordination of key research projects  
  • Management of research reporting requirements
  • Contribution to the financial management and budgeting of research projects  
  • Contribution to the administrative requirements of research projects within the Centre
  • Contribution to manuscript preparation
  • Contribution to grant writing

 

Victorian Department of Health has endorsed the initiative to restructure existing public pathology by bringing together laboratories into pathology networks operating under a lead health service. 
Pathology services from the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, the Royal Women’s Hospital and the Royal Children’s Hospital will transition to a single pathology service.  This creates an exciting opportunity to strengthen the scope, scale and reach of pathology services across the Parkville precinct to benefit all Victorians.
This role will transition to the new lead health service for pathology services once determined.

Essential requirements
  • BSc or equivalent with relevance to biomedical science
  • Experience in molecular pathology projects 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills  
  • Excellent time management skills with focus on attention to detail 
  • Financial and budgeting experience  
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team  
  • Demonstrated skills in the use of IT systems, preferably in a health care setting and competent in use of the Microsoft Office Suite 
Desirable requirements
  • Postgraduate qualification (MSc, PhD)
  • Experience providing direct line supervision to a small to medium sized team
  • Knowledge and understanding of genomic technology or genetic counselling  
  • Involvement in research activities including grant writing

  • Monitor ongoing expenses against allocated budget 
  • Meetings are scheduled, agendas distributed in a timely manner and accurate minutes are kept and then distributed in a timely manner 
  • Involvement in grant submissions 
  • Publication and presentation of research work as appropriate

  • Understanding of research ethics process
