Practice Development Nurse (Radiotherapy), Box Hill
Employment Status: Ongoing, Part Time
Hours: 16 Hours per Fortnight / 1 Day per Week

We are inviting applications for the Ongoing position of Practice Development Nurse – Radiotherapy, based at Box Hill.

 

This position is offered at 16 hours per fortnight and reports directly to the Nurse Unit Manager, Box Hill.

 

In this key clinical leadership role, you will provide expert guidance within the highly specialised field of radiotherapy nursing. You will play a pivotal role in advancing nursing practice through education, mentorship, and competency-based development, helping to ensure excellence in patient care across our services.

 

Key Responsibilities:
•    Lead and coordinate education programs and competency assessments for radiotherapy nursing staff 
•    Develop, review, and implement radiotherapy nursing protocols, policies, and practice guidelines 
•    Support the delivery of consistent, high-quality nursing care across campuses in line with organisational and professional standards 
•    Collaborate closely with Practice Development Nurses, educators, and multidisciplinary clinical specialists to promote best practice and continuity of care 

 

About You:
•    Demonstrated advanced clinical expertise in radiotherapy nursing 
•    Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field 
•    Strong commitment to professional development, including progression toward a Master’s degree 
•    Proven ability to lead, educate, and mentor nursing staff in a clinical environment 

 

Remuneration as per Nurses and Midwives (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2024-2028. RN ANUM, Year 1 (YW11) $116,911.60 (full-time equivalent - to be prorated for Part Time) – Year 2 (YW12) $120,848.00 (full-time equivalent - to be prorated for Part Time), dependent on candidate experience. To be discussed with Hiring Manager.

Position Summary

The Practice Development Nurse (PDN) is a clinical, education and leadership position within the unit leadership team working under delegation, and in close collaboration with the Nurse Unit Manager. The role has a close collaboration with Nursing Education.

Practice Development Nurses work with the nursing workforce, patients and carers to drive a continuous process of practice improvement towards a culture of sustained clinical effectiveness in patient centred care, based on best available evidence.  
 
The role of PDN also supports the facilitation of programs and pathways for nurses within the clinical unit including Orientation and Preceptorship, Nursing Clinical Competency Program, Graduate Nurse Program, Cancer Nursing Practice Pathways, Undergraduate Students of Nursing Program, Inservice Program and Short course education Program.  

The role is essential in leading and supporting clinical skill development for the nursing workforce.

Essential Requirements
  • Current AHPRA registration
  • Postgraduate qualification in cancer nursing or equivalent
  • Demonstrated proficient clinical expertise and at least 3 years’ experience in specialty area of practice/cancer nursing
  • Core clinical skill capabilities of clinical unit 
  • Ability to effectively lead local team, and practice development initiatives 
  • Well- developed communication and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant platforms

  • The PDN in collaboration with Nurse Unit Manager, led by Nursing Education assumes responsibility for delivery of nursing education programs and pathways in the clinical unit. 
  • Orientation and Preceptorship
    • Ensuring all new nursing staff attend nursing orientation and facilitation of clinical unit orientation
    • Overseeing and supporting Preceptorship in the clinical unit to support new nurse orientation 
  • Clinical skills training and Competency Program
    • Assessing and identifying development needs of all new nursing staff
    • Supporting the ongoing development needs of all clinical nurses in the unit through dedicated clinical support to the unit and delivering of training in the unit 
    • Providing dedicated clinical support to support training and development of all clinical nurses, to address identified development needs for nurses

4. Assumes a role of clinical and professional leadership through accountability for own professional development and practice
