YOUR ROLE IN OUR FUTURE

Casual Role

We are looking for Grade 2 Physiotherapists to join our Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, and Exercise Physiology Department at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. This is a casual role working across oncology and haematology, providing high-quality patient care in our weekend and public holiday service.

Your new role would involve:

Delivering high-quality physiotherapy care to patients with a variety of oncology-related conditions. A broad base of cardiorespiratory, neurological and orthopaedic skills is a great advantage in providing excellent care in both inpatient and outpatient settings
Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to provide holistic, patient-centred care.

About you:

Registered Physiotherapist with AHPRA.
Relevant clinical experience in acute oncology and haematology.
Post-surgical experience an advantage.
Consolidated cardiorespiratory, neurological and orthopaedic skills an advantage
Demonstrated ability to work flexibly and proactively in a dynamic healthcare environment.
Proven track record in clinical service delivery and achieving a range of outcomes effectively.
Experience in lymphoedema management is an added advantage.

Position Summary

Provide acute inpatient and outpatient management and treatment for Peter Mac patients (Melbourne campus and satellites)

Play an assistive role in the clinical leadership of the physiotherapy department and provide an excellent standard of patient care within the specialist area of oncological physiotherapy, including the palliative care unit as appropriate

Assist with facilitating and implementing the departmental priorities of professional development, research and quality activities and to ensure that these consistently inform clinical activity

Essential Requirements

Tertiary qualification in Physiotherapy (Bachelor, Masters or equivalent)
Current AHPRA physiotherapy registration
Demonstrated interest and experience in acute cancer care
Excellent written communication skills including computer literacy
Demonstrated commitment to evidence based service protocols and quality programs
Reliable, flexible and conscientious approach to patient management and workplace issues

Desirable Requirements

Ability to consult and adapt treatments to the special needs of oncology patients
Lymphoedema management qualifications or experience
Relevant peak body membership (APA, COSA, ALA, etc.)
Valid Victorian driver’s license

1. Deliver high quality, appropriate physiotherapy care and education to cancer patients	Manage a complex caseload and varied clinical caseload, including palliative care unit as appropriate (80% clinical) Triage and manage inpatient and outpatient referrals Liaise with LMOs, community based practitioners and other services Assist in the development and refinement of physiotherapy services for relevant tumour streams
2. Provide leadership and guidance through an oncology and patient focused framework	Supervise and support junior staff, students and assistants Contribute to junior staff and student development and training Provide regular, structured supervision to allocated staff or students
3. Participate in and contribute to departmental, hospital and external activities including continuing education, quality assurance and research	Attend regular supervision sessions with senior staff Provide annual performance and professional development summary to supervisor and participate in regular reviews of progress Regular participation in staff meetings, education sessions and in-services Maintain, document and report course participation and attendance, including all mandatory hospital development courses Provides quality and research reports according to organisational and departmental requirements Complete at least 1 significant quality project with report annually
4. Responsible and accountable consumable and equipment usage	Report departmental stock levels of equipment, lymphoedema garments and other consumables as used Provide equipment and consumables according to departmental policies Communicate changing resource needs to admin staff, assistants or line manager as appropriate Ensure appropriate invoices are issued for sales or hires Informs patients and their carers to any associated equipment hire conditions and costs
5. Accurate and timely documentation	Regular and accurate submission of statistics Meet all departmental requirements for documentation standards Same day (or within 24 hours) documentation of clinical notes (assessment, treatment, progress) and planning Contribute to departmental data bases as indicated Maintenance of patient privacy and confidentiality at all times
