•    Up to $79,778 (pro-rata for part-time) base + salary packaging + super + 5 weeks annual leave

About the team
The Pharmacy team at Peter Mac plays a key role in supporting high quality patient care, incorporating all facets of innovative clinical pharmacy practice. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, the pharmacy team provides a comprehensive patient-focused service for all Peter Mac patients, ensuring the safe and timely delivery of all treatments. With a strong focus on innovation, quality, and collaboration, the team contributes directly to advancing cancer treatment through research and improving outcomes - keeping patient care at the centre of everything we do.
 
About the role
As a Grade 4 Pharmacy Technician, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of training and credentialing programs, focusing on improving and supporting the educational goals of the inpatient service area and wider department. Working closely with the inpatient wards team, including the senior clinical pharmacist for inpatient services and the clinical pharmacy trainer, you will enjoy working in a busy, team-based environment when striving towards providing excellent patient care.
 
In conjunction with other members of the team, you will:
•    Develop, implement, maintain and apply a high standard of training, assessment and verifying methods
•    Ensure Pharmacy Technicians have the necessary skills, knowledge and capability to undertake both core and extended roles
•    Maintain accurate patient and dispensing records
•    Uphold excellence in pharmacy standards and practice
•    Ensure compliance with legislative requirements, regulations, policies, and quality standards

About you

•    Evidence of Certificate IV in Health (Hospital Pharmacy Technician) or equivalent
•    Well-developed organisation and prioritisation skills.
•    Previous experience in oncology pharmacy practice is highly desirable.

Position Summary

To participate as an active member of the pharmacy team to provide safe, rational and cost-effective pharmaceutical care for patients, staff and others by arrangement.


To supervise and coordinate training of pharmacy technicians in collaboration with the relevant pharmacist managers. To develop and maintain operational policy and procedures. Work collaboratively with other grade 4 pharmacy technicians and pharmacy managers to build sustainable process improvements thus ensuring the ongoing competency of the pharmacy technician workforce and operational efficiency at Peter Mac.

Skills

Essential requirements 
  • Completion of Certificate IV in Hospital Health Services Pharmacy Support or equivalent
  • At least 3 years full time hospital pharmacy experience
  • Advanced computer skills with proficient knowledge of Microsoft applications including Excel and Word
  • Competent in working with digital health applications including Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and pharmacy dispensing systems
  • Willingness to work under the direction or supervision of a pharmacist as a member of the pharmacy team in accordance with legislation requirements and Pharmacy Board of Australia Guidelines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people from a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds and experiences.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical products and medical terminology

  • Experience in advance scope pharmacy technician duties such as taking best possible medication histories, medication counselling and/or ward based pharmacy technician duties.
  • Completion of pharmacy accredited checking technician (PACT) credentialled training

  • Knowledge of Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS)

5. Support the work of the team and the department

  • Technical functions relating to dispensing and distribution of medicines including data entry and label preparation, assembly and labelling of stock
  • Imprest shelves are maintained in accordance with agreed range and quantity of in-date stock.
  • Stock control functions including stock level audits, expiry date checking, stock file maintenance, internal stock movements, recycling of stock.
  • Stock control tasks are performed in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with department policies and procedures.
