Grade 3 Rotational Pharmacy Technician -  Ongoing Role Available - (Full-Time)

 
We are seeking enthusiastic persons to fill new rotational pharmacy technician roles.  The successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to expand their skills and career opportunities, working well within a team environment.  You will contribute to our focus on providing excellent patient care by supporting the clinical pharmacy services to inpatients and outpatients.  Services include specialised aseptic and chemotherapy manufacturing, ward technician services, drug distribution, dispensing and support for clinical trials.
 
•    Applicants must have completed or be working towards a Hospital Pharmacy Technician Training course at Certificate III or IV level.
•    Completed their Victorian Certificate of Education, preferably with a math subject.
•    Training and validation in cytotoxic manufacturing or experience as a hospital dispensary technician are highly desirable.
 
Remuneration as per Health and Allied Services, Managers and Administrative Workers (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2021-2025. Pharmacy Technician Grade 3 (TH10) $65,754.00 per annum for full-time (pro-rata for part-time). To be discussed with Hiring Manager.

Skills

Essential Requirements 
  • Completion of approved pharmacy technician training course or equivalent, or willingness to undertake course. 
  • VCE or equivalent with a maths subject. 
  • Keyboard skills with some computer experience. 
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a hospital pharmacy technician. 
  • Willingness to be flexible in working hours, including weekend work from time to time. 
  • Ability to work under the direction or supervision of a pharmacist as a member of the pharmacy team in accordance with legislative requirements and Pharmacy Board of Australia Guidelines. 
Desirable Requirements 
  • Experience in all key operational areas of hospital pharmacy. 
  • Experience and training in pharmacy procurement processes. 
  • Experience with aseptic and cytotoxic preparation, completion of a valid cytotoxic training course.

Key Accountabilities

1. Imprest stock control and maintenance 
  • Operation of the pharmacy imprest system to wards and other departments including stock level audits, entry of requirements into PDEs, data transfer, assembly of stock, delivery of stock and placement into storage areas. 
  • Imprest shelves are maintained in accordance with agreed range and quantity of in‐date stock. 
  • Stock control functions including stock level audits, expiry date checking, stock file maintenance, internal stock movements, recycling of stock. 
  • Stock control tasks are performed in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with department policies and procedures. 
  • Technical functions relating to dispensing including data entry and label preparation, assembly and labelling of stock 
2. Packing and compounding performed according to operating procedures 
  • Non‐sterile manufacturing and prepacking of stock including preparation of equipment and labels, and worksheets, simple compounding procedures, packing and labelling of product, quality control procedures sterile manufacturing and technical functions relating to dispensing sterile products including preparation of equipment and labels, setting up of clean environment, simple compounding procedures, packing and labelling of product, quality control procedures. 
  • Following completion of credentialed training, to prepare IV additive and cytotoxic products, safe and accurate preparation of sterile products (including cytotoxics) according to department policies and procedures 
  • Dispensing and manufacturing tasks are performed in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with department policies and procedures. 
3. Support the work of the team and department 
  • Following completion of the training and orientation, to work in all pharmacy operational areas to support leave or during other absences. 
  • Following completion of credentialed training, support the clinical pharmacy team in the medication management process. 
  • General duties including photocopying, filing, printing patient profiles and other reports, general tidying and cleaning of work area and general maintenance of equipment and materials.

4. Adhere to Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) Policies and Procedures 
  • Takes all reasonable steps to ensure a safe environment. 
  • Understands emergency procedures and location of emergency equipment. 
  • Completes incident reports 100% of the time and responds appropriately to OH&S incidents. 
  • Attends Health & Safety training on emergency procedures annually and is capable of identifying emergency equipment in place. 
  • Direct care staff will attend the yearly update on theory of fire, code red and orange responses and use of extinguishers. 
  • Adheres to the principles of Infection Control in accordance with Peter Mac policies and procedures. 
5. Maintain a standard of excellence in all areas 
  • Staff member is expected to maintain a standard of excellence in all areas to which they are rostered to work. They are expected to perform at an acceptable level with respect to the following:
