Grade 3 Cytosuite Pharmacy Technician - Ongoing, Full-Time Role

 

We are seeking enthusiastic persons to fill Cytosuite Pharmacy Technician role.  The successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to expand their skills and career opportunities, working well within a team environment.  You will contribute to our focus on providing excellent patient care by supporting the clinical pharmacy services to inpatients and outpatients.  Services include specialised aseptic and chemotherapy manufacturing, ward technician services, drug distribution, dispensing and support for clinical trials.
 
•    Applicants must have completed or be working towards a Hospital Pharmacy Technician Training course at Certificate III or IV level.
•    Completed their Victorian Certificate of Education, preferably with a math subject.
•    Training and validation in cytotoxic manufacturing or experience as a hospital dispensary technician are highly desirable.

 

Remuneration as per Health and Allied Services, Managers and Administrative Workers (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2021-2025. Pharmacy Technician Grade 3 (TH10) $65,754.00 per annum. To be discussed with Hiring Manager.

Position Summary

To participate as an active member of the pharmacy team to provide safe, rational and cost- effective pharmaceutical care for patients of the centre, centre staff and others by arrangement.

To undertake aseptic production duties including the manufacture of cytotoxic and non- cytotoxic hazardous drugs for clients of the Peter Mac cytosuite.

Skills

Essential Requirements •    Completion of an approved pharmacy technician training course.
•    Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a hospital pharmacy technician for classification as a Grade 3. (NB. Equivalent experience will be appropriately recognised.)
•    Completion of the Peter Mac Cytotoxic preparation course or equivalent, or willingness to undertake approved training.
•    Experience in the preparation of aseptic and cytotoxic products or willingness to undertake approved training and, on completion, prepare these products.
•    VCE or equivalent with a maths subject.
•    Keyboard skills with some computer experience.
•    Willingness to be flexible in working hours, including weekend work from time to time.
•    Willingness to work under the direction or supervision of a pharmacist and the Senior Technician as a member of the pharmacy team, in accordance with legislative requirements and Pharmacy Board of Australia Guidelines

Key Accountabilities

1. Perform technical functions to facilitate safe and timely supply of aseptic products    Following completion of credentialled training, undertakes technical functions related to dispensing and manufacture of sterile products in accordance with departmental policies and procedures including;
•Generation of labels, claiming against the PBS, selection and preparation of stock and equipment
•Set-up and maintenance of clean environment, compounding procedures, packing and labelling of product
•Quality control procedures.
2. Undertake general duties associated with stock control Perform stock control tasks in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with department policies and procedures, including;
•Maintaining stock levels in accordance with agreed range and quantity of in-date stock
•Stock ordering, auditing, and expiry date checking
•Facilitating internal stock movements and recycling returned stock
•Maintaining and filing documentation relating to stock orders
•Work with the pharmacy stores technicians to manage stock shortages
•Working with the Senior Cytosuite Technicians/Cytosuite Production Manager to reduce costs and wastage.
3. Adhere to Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) Policies and Procedures Complies with Peter Mac policies and procedures to maintain a safe workplace, including;
•Adhering to Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) guidance, promptly completing incident reports/VHIMS, and reporting to area managers
•Complies with Infection Control policies and procedures 100% of the time
•Promptly responding to cytotoxic related emergencies including accidental exposure
•Understanding emergency procedures and location of emergency equipment
•Complies with manual handing policies and procedures
•General duties including tidying and cleaning of work area and maintenance of equipment and materials.

•Maintain attention to detail and the expected level of accuracy in all tasks

•Comply with GMP for aseptically compounded products and cytotoxic handling standards.
