Full-Time and Part-Time Opportunities Available

 

About the Role
Patient Services Assistants (PSAs) work closely with clinical and administrative teams to support each patient’s journey and overall care experience. These roles provide high-quality patient and environmental support services that contribute to infection prevention, patient safety, and patient comfort.
We are currently seeking two PSAs to join our night shift team:

Position 1: Full-Time (Ongoing)

•    Roster: Monday–Thursday, 10-hour night shifts (4 × 10 hrs)
•    Hours per fortnight: 80 hours per F/N with ADO
•    Reports to: PSA Coordinator
•    Mandatory qualification: PSA Certificate (required, or willingness to complete the course)

Position 2: Part-Time (Ongoing)

•    Roster: Friday–Sunday, 10-hour night shifts (3 × 10 hrs)
•    Hours per fortnight: 60 hours per F/N (pro-rata entitlements under the EBA)
•    Reports to: PSA Coordinator
•    Mandatory qualification: PSA Certificate (required, or willingness to complete the course)

Key Responsibilities (both roles)

•    Maintain a high standard of cleaning and housekeeping to support infection prevention and patient comfort.
•    Safely transport patients and/or equipment between departments.
•    Replenish stock, change bed linen, dispose of waste, and ensure supplies are stored correctly.
•    Provide general ward support (errand running, fetch-and-carry) and ensure equipment is returned to the correct location.
•    Assist health professionals in monitoring patient welfare and comfort in patient rooms, lounges, and waiting areas.
•    Follow Patient Identification, manual handling, and other safety procedures; escalate issues promptly.

•    Holds a current PSA Certificate (required, or willingness to complete the course).

Remuneration

Remuneration as per Health and Allied Services, Managers and Administrative Workers (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2021-2025. Patient Services Assistant Level 2 (PS25): $60,606.00 (full-time equivalent - to be prorated for Part Time). To be discussed with Hiring Manager.

Position Summary

The PSA position works closely with local health professionals and administrative staff to support the patients journey and experience of care by providing a range of patient and environmental support services including;

1. Maintain a safe, clean and tidy patient care environment in accordance with Safe Operating Procedures. 

 

  • To be physically able to perform the duties as required, using appropriate methods and techniques 
  • To maintain an accepted standard of performance to ensure a clean uncluttered environment 
  • Ensure floors, bedside locker and over bed tables are clean and dry 
  • Thoroughly clean bed areas and treatment chairs (if applicable) and remake patient beds 
  • Maintain patients’ flowers 
  • Replenish water jugs 
  • Ensure patient bathrooms and staff toilets within the scope are clean and dry as required 
  • All patient care areas are to mopped using microfiber mops 
  • Damp, dry and high/low dusting at set frequencies 
  • Ensure linen bags/skips within patient care areas are continuously monitored, removed and replaced as required 
  • Removal and segregation of waste and receptacles from patient care areas including monitoring of the need to replace near full sharps containers 
  • Spot clean bed and shower curtains, walls and furniture as required 
  • Change patient curtains if soiled or when they reach the ‘change by date’ 
  • Clean internal windows, ledges, frames and internal glass surfaces including mirrors. 
  • Ensure all service areas are free from dirt, grime and dust, both high and low 
  • Restock point of use receptacles and procedure trollies 
  • Ensure all service area floors are clean and dry by using microfiber mops 
  • Vacuum all carpeted areas 
  • Maintain a clean and tidy kitchen and pantry, including washing of all cups, saucers and utensils and defrost and clean all staff and patient fridges 
  • Ensure all service ward areas are stocked to correct levels 
  • Order consumables/supplies as required for all ward service areas 
  • Ensure equipment is cleaned and stored safely 
  • Ensure loan OT and Physiotherapy equipment is returned to the appropriate ward locations and cleaned in line with protocol 
  • Ensure wheelchairs are distributed evenly around the hospital by returning excess wheelchairs to the ground floor reception area 

 

2. Have a flexible approach to work with ability to work independently and/or within a team. 

 

  • Respond in timely manner to transportation of Peter Mac patients between clinical services at Peter Mac and return visiting patients post procedure or imaging to clinical services partners at RMH and the RWH. 
  • Respond in timely manner to cleaning and preparation of discharge bed requests 
  • Contribute to team effectiveness of the ward, department and hospital 
  • Carry out all duties in manner that fulfils the vision and values of Peter Mac 
  • Accept responsibility for the standards of work achieved

3. Support high quality patient care and a great patient experience with high standards of customer service for patients, carers and staff. 

 

  • Ensure a professional approach to all staff, patients and their visitors by being courteous and helpful 
  • Ensure patient confidentiality at all times 
  • Provide clear and concise communication with all ward staff in the process of performing duties 
  • Provide urgent courier services as requested 
  • Adhere to stipulated times of service delivery in accordance to ward schedules 
  • Provide high standards of customer service to patients including provision of general housekeeping e.g. bed making, sourcing clean towels, extra blankets etc. 
  • Support patients to be prepared for meals by assisting them to be seated upright with their tray handy and assist with opening packets and pouring drinks 
  • Assist with monitoring food wastage if requested 
  • Deliver fresh water jugs to patients and collect patient meal trays as per stipulated times on ward schedule 
  • Deliver supper to patients and clear supper trays 
  • Pickup and delivery of other items as required including movements of medication orders, chemotherapy products and Total Parenteral Nutrition ( TPN) from the RMH Sterile suite Pharmacy 
  • Assist the local health professional team to monitor patient safety and welfare and escalate any patient concerns to relevant these health professionals 
  • Assist clinical staff with other activities within the agreed PSA scope for that area including measuring and recording patient heights and weights 
  • Under direct supervision of clinical staff assist with patient positioning, pressure care and patient hygiene support. 

 

4. Contribute to a safe work environment for all patients, staff and visitors

 

  • Work is conducted in a manner that will not endanger yourself or others 
  • Demonstrate safe work practices at all times 
  • Follow Peter Mac’s Occupational Health & Safety policies and procedures 
  • Report any unsafe work practices, hazards, near miss accidents and incidents 
  • Report faults/damage of equipment to Environmental Services Supervisor 
  • Ensure manual handling principles are practiced at all times 
  • Handle all waste in accordance to hospital procedures
