Pathology Collector - Cancer Imaging/PET

About the team
An exciting opportunity exists for a pathology collector to join our busy dynamic team working in the imaging department at Peter Mac. We currently have several support staff who are an integral part of our team and assist the technologists providing direct patient care for inpatients and outpatients during their imaging and therapy procedures.
 
About the role
The role assists with intravenous cannulation of patients in preparation for their procedures, monitoring consumables and equipment, ensuring the work environment is in compliance with infection control, performing ECGs (when required), blood sampling and labelling and updating patient information in hospital information systems.
 
About you
You will have excellent customer service skills with a key ability to interact with others through the use of communication and other interpersonal skills.
You'll bring with you:
•    Certificate III (essential) or Certificate IV (highly desirable) in Pathology Collection from an approved educational institution. 
•    2+ years of Pathology Collection experience.
•    Skilled at intravenous cannulation.
•    High level of clinical skill in specimen collection.  
•    Is capable of prioritising work with a ‘can do’ approach to a busy workload, within established policies, guidelines and procedures.  
•    Displays commitment and enthusiasm for the job. A strong work ethic. 
•    A basic knowledge of medical terminology. 
•    Demonstrated a high degree of professionalism.

 

Remuneration as per Health and Allied Services, Managers and Administrative Workers (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2021-2025. Pathology Collector Grade 2 (IN24) $62,540.40 (full-time equivalent - to be prorated for Part Time) dependent on candidate experience. To be discussed with Hiring Manager.

Position Summary

To provide quality pathology collection service to inpatients and outpatients in Cancer Imaging.

The Pathology Collector is accountable for:

  • Correctly and skilfully collecting, labelling, packaging, and timely dispatch of pathology specimens to the laboratory.
  • Providing an excellent patient experience
  • The accurate recording of patient information regarding patients and specimensin accordance with practice instructions
  • Maintaining a high level of skill in pathology specimen collection adhering to infection control policies.
  • Perform Electrocardiography (ECG).
  • Safely and effectively perform cannulation in accordance with Peter MacCallum’s policies and procedures

  • Evidence of accurate and complete documentation that adheres to hospital pathology procedures.

  • Develop and maintain a high standard of customer service respecting the wishes of the patient.  
  • Documentation to reflect legal and professional requirements, and continuity of care.
