Ongoing, Full Time Role – Occupational Therapist Grade 2

80 hours per fortnight

Parkville location
Salary between $90,235 to $103,724 depending on experience

We are seeking a dynamic Grade 2 Occupational Therapist to deliver exceptional care to patients undergoing cancer treatment. This full-time position offers the opportunity to work in a world-class oncology setting, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to enhance patient wellbeing and recovery.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide high-quality, patient-centred occupational therapy services to individuals with complex oncology needs.
Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop tailored intervention plans to support patients' functional independence and quality of life.
Work collaboratively with medical, nursing, and allied health teams to ensure integrated, holistic care.
Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, and student supervision.

The successful candidate will possess:

Bachelor or Masters of Occupational Therapy (or equivalent) with current AHPRA registration.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience, preferably within an acute hospital or oncology setting.
Strong clinical reasoning, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Passion for delivering compassionate, evidence-based care.

Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous improvement.

Position Summary

Provide acute inpatient and outpatient management and treatment for Peter Mac patients (Melbourne campus and satellites)

Play an assistant role in the clinical leadership of the occupational therapy team and provide an excellent standard of patient care within the specialist area of oncological practice

Essential Requirements

Tertiary qualification in Occupational Therapy (Bachelor, Masters or equivalent)
Current AHPRA Occupational Therapy registration
Demonstrated interest and experience in acute cancer care
Minimum of 3 years relevant clinical experience
Excellent written communication skills including computer literacy
Demonstrated commitment to evidence based service protocols and quality programs
Reliable, flexible and conscientious approach to patient management and workplace issues
Evidence of continued professional development
Valid Victorian driver’s license

Desirable Requirements

SWEP credentialed provider
Palliative care experience
Ability to consult and adapt treatments to the special needs of oncology patients
Lymphoedema management qualifications or experience
Relevant post graduate training
Ability to conduct a literature search and appraisal
Previous experience supervising AHA, students and junior staff
Developing skills in program development and evaluation
Developing skills in research
Relevant peak body membership (OTA, COSA, ALA, etc.) and active participation in professional body and special interest groups
Valid Victorian driver’s license

Key Accountabilities

1. Deliver high quality, appropriate care and education to cancer patients	Manage a complex caseload and varied clinical caseload (70-80% clinical) Triage and manage inpatient and outpatient referrals within KPI timeframes Liaise with LMOs, community based practitioners and other services Make independent clinical reasoning decisions relating to the majority of complex cases and seek assistance as required Assist in the development and refinement of occupational therapy services for relevant tumour streams
2. Provide leadership and guidance through an oncology and patient focused framework	Take a lead role in co-ordination of student placements (in conjunction with Grade 3 OT) Supervise and support junior staff, students and assistants Contribute to junior staff and student development and training Provide regular, structured supervision to allocated staff or students Seeks and acts on opportunities to develop leadership skills
3. Participate in and contribute to departmental, hospital and external activities including continuing education, quality assurance and research	Maintain up to date appraisal and supervision records and participate in planned sessions according to schedule agreed upon Regular, active participation in staff meetings, education sessions and in-services Maintain, document and report course participation and attendance, including all mandatory hospital development courses Assist in relevant quality improvement, research and evidence based practice (EBP) projects to develop the department and OT clinical practice Provides quality and research reports according to organisational and departmental requirements Complete at least 1 significant quality project with report annually Develop the ability to conduct a literature search
4. Responsible and accountable consumable and equipment usage	Report departmental stock levels of equipment and consumables as used Provide equipment and consumables according to departmental policies Communicate changing resource needs to admin staff, assistants or line manager as appropriate Ensure appropriate invoices are issued for sales or hires Informs patients and their carers to any associated equipment hire conditions and costs
5. Accurate and timely documentation	Regular and accurate submission of statistics Meet all departmental requirements for documentation standards Same day (or within 24 hours) documentation of clinical notes (assessment, treatment, progress) and planning Contribute to departmental data bases as indicated Maintenance of patient privacy and confidentiality at all times
