Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Operations and Systems Manager
•    Ongoing, Full-Time Position
•    80 hours per fortnight with monthly ADOs
•    Parkville location, with hybrid working
•    $140,000 - $150,000 p.a. + salary packaging + super + 5 weeks annual leave

About the role
The Manager of OHS Operations and Systems provides leadership for the provision of a healthy and safe workplace for all employees, students, building partners and visitors to Peter MacCallum cancer centre. This role oversees a team responsible for the governance of the OHS safety management system and operational plan for Peter Mac with a particular focus on laboratories, chemicals, cryogenics, clinical support services and policy- procedure maintenance.
 
About you
You will have excellent writtena and verbal communication skills, with an ability to build and maintain strong personal relationships and networks, monitor stakeholder feedback and concerns; and constructively deal with issues as they arise.
 
You'll bring with you:
•    Post graduate qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety
•    Experience in managing teams and professionals in a complex environment.
•    Sound technical occupational health and safety knowledge, contemporary practice and experience in developing, implementing and evaluating innovative health and safety strategies that align with the Health Safety Wellbeing strategy and operational plan.
•    Expert knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety and Workers Compensation legislation and regulations and WorkSafe guidelines
•    Sound analytics and information management skills, with an ability to interpret & utilise data to report on trends, create insights and demonstrate issues and outcomes.
•    Ability to challenge current work practices and gain commitment from senior leaders.
•    Significant experience in implementing and embedding audit recommendations.

Position Summary

The Manager of OHS Operations and Systems provides leadership for the provision of a healthy and safe workplace for all employees, students, building partners and visitors to Peter MacCallum cancer centre. This role oversees a team responsible for the governance of the OHS safety management system and operational plan for Peter Mac with a particular focus on laboratories, chemicals, cryogenics, clinical support services and policy- procedure maintenance.

As a member of the Health, Safety and Wellbeing leadership team, the Manager will work collaboratively to deliver a safe work environment and a proactive safety culture in line with the HSW and Peter Mac strategic direction. You will have demonstrated yourself as a successful leader with positive stakeholder relationships, strategic thinking and skilled problem-solving in a complex service delivery environment. Your extensive OHS expertise is complemented by your demonstrated leadership and ability to drive a positive workplace culture.

  • Inform and implement the HSW Strategy and operational plan
  • Provide strategic advice to the Executive and senior leaders on OHS matters.

  • Ensure completion of OHS audits and other activities as outlined in the OHS system.

2. Provide expert advisory services and planning for the organisation in Occupational Health and Safety

  • Support the OHS and broader HSW team to deliver a responsive service with proactive resolution of issues
  • Coach and mentor the HSW team to manage technical issues outside their expertise

3. Ensure risk management activities are undertaken and effective risk controls are in place
  • Establishes systems and procedures to guide work and track progress
  • Identifies processes, tasks and resources required to achieve a goal
  • Recognises actual and potential barriers and finds effective ways to deal with them
  • Sets clearly defined objectives and priorities and operates accordingly, reviewing and adjusting as required
  • Ensure incidents are appropriately recorded, investigated and corrective actions are implemented
  • Ensure all policies, protocols and procedures are in line with legislative requirements and best practice
  • Review OHS performance indicators and implement systems of continuous improvement.
4. Ensure compliance with OHS legislation and coordination with external agencies
  • Coordinate inspections and investigations by external parties e.g. WorkSafe, liaising with all relevant staff and Managers at all levels
  • Provide ongoing, timely and accurate advice to the Director of Health Safety and Wellbeing, Executive Director People and Culture, PMCC Executive and Board as required.
5. Wellbeing
  • Work with the Head of Employee Wellbeing to assist in implementation of proven wellbeing initiatives for Peter Mac employees to meet strategic objectives
  • Builds trust through consistent actions, values and communication
  • Forges partnerships with people across business areas, functions and organisations
  • Proven ability to build positive and productive relationships
  • Establish systems and processes to monitor, follow-up and reduce the incidence of adverse events.
