Nurse Manager – Specialist Clinics
12 Month Fixed Term, Full-Time Role

 

The Nurse Unit Manager is recognised as the leader of the nursing team who models the core values of Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre through effective leadership and management of the clinical nursing and support staff within Specialist Clinics and Outpatient Pathology.
 
You will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of evidence-based nursing care that meets professional, organisational, legal and ethical standards in order to optimise health outcomes for the community. The Nurse Unit Manager is responsible for fostering a positive culture, driving change, a safe working environment and the effective utilisation of financial resources within a cycle of continuous service improvement.
 
This is an opportunity for fixed term leave cover.

Remuneration as per Nurses and Midwives (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2020-2024. Nurse Manager 4 (NM12) $130,509.60 per annum (full-time equivalent) to be discussed with Hiring Manager.

Position Summary

Peter Mac Specialist Clinics has over 150,000 patient visits a year from all 12 tumour streams utilising over 85 clinic rooms. In addition, there are over 40,000 patient visits per year to Outpatient Pathology. The NUM Specialist Clinics and Outpatient Pathology will have key accountability and oversight of the leadership, governance of patient care, and efficient operational and business processes across both Specialist Clinics and Outpatient Pathology services. Other services under this portfolio include the Echocardiogram, Respiratory Function Testing and See and Treat services.

Working closely with the Operations Director - Ambulatory Services, this position is responsible for implementing organisational change and improvements within the Specialist Clinics and Outpatient Pathology departments.

Skills

Essential Requirements
  • Registered Nurse Division 1
  • Extensive experience and demonstrated knowledge and expertise in acute care nursing
  • Previous experience in managing acute ambulatory, theatre or procedural services.
  • Proven resource management capability
  • Proven ability to lead and work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in patient care.
  • An understanding of, and experience with, developing evidence-based practice
  • Demonstrated involvement in professional activities and organisations
  • Proven ability to recruit, retain and develop staff
  • Strong customer service skills, able to communicate effectively and respectfully with colleagues, patients and staff
  • Demonstrated skills in the use of IT systems, including the use of Microsoft Office Suite
Desirable Requirements
  • Master’s degree in nursing or management equivalent
  • Experience in conducting unit-based quality improvement activities
  • Evidence of experience in the design and implementation of an agreed departmental strategy
  • Evidence of patient experience methodology and patient centred innovation

•    Demonstrates leadership and accountability for annual unit budget build in accordance with unit goals and targets.
•    Leads recruitment, selection, retention and performance management of staff, including conducting annual performance appraisals on all unit staff
•    Supports senior staff to create a dynamic, positive learning culture for each staff member and to take constructive action if a discrepancy is recognised between actual performance, and performance requirement
•    Maintenance of equipment and service contracts for equipment and services in Specialist Clinics and Outpatient Pathology
2. Education •    Leadership of an environment committed to learning and practice evolution
