An exciting leadership opportunity exists for an experienced and motivated Nurse Unit Manager to join Ward 6A – Surgical Oncology at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
As the NUM, you will lead a skilled and passionate nursing team in delivering world-class cancer care to patients undergoing a wide range of surgical procedures, including breast, skin and plastics, colorectal, upper GI, urology, gynaecology, sarcoma, and head and neck surgeries. This ward is known for its high acuity, complex care, and commitment to both curative and palliative surgical outcomes.
You will be pivotal in fostering a high-performing team culture underpinned by Peter Mac’s core values of Excellence, Innovation, and Compassion. Working alongside a dedicated multidisciplinary team you will ensure safe, evidence-based, patient-centred care in a modern 32-bed surgical unit.

2. Education - Staff |
- Leadership of an environment committed to learning and practice evolution.
- Accountability for unit based orientation and allocation of a preceptor to all new staff.
- Accountability for regular in-service education across the Service, targeting the needs of diverse nurses working within and across cancer surgery.

- In collaboration with Academic Nursing Unit and Chief Nursing Officer, inform and contribute to a dynamic program of education for Cancer Surgery, and organisation wide nursing workforce.

- 100% completion of Service based orientation and allocation of a preceptor (or equivalent model) on commencement in Ward 6A

- Responsible for the coordination and maintenance of the quality activities to comply with the quality objectives of the Cancer Surgery Division.
- Management of Equipment and critical materials to ensure appropriately commissioned, maintained and controlled at all times, with all changes appropriately controlled and managed.
- Coordination, development and management of Standard Operating Procedures and documents to ensure safe patient care across the Ward 6A service.
