Clinical Nurse Consultant- Apheresis, Cellular Therapies and Quality

  • 12-month fixed term, full time position.
  • 80 hours per fortnight with monthly ADOs.
  • $134,498.00 (ZA7) - $137,696.00 (ZA8) base salary per annum + salary packaging + super + 5 weeks annual leave.

About the role

The Clinical Nurse Consultant – Apheresis, Cellular Therapies and Quality is to be accountable for the provision of evidence based clinical nursing care of Haematology/Oncology patients in apheresis and the level 1 cellular therapy infusion centre. The function of this role is also to act as an expert clinical resource for precinct staff and external clients, and provide visible clinical leadership across the Parkville precinct and partnering organisations. The role will lead, support and ensure evidence based nursing care that meets professional, organisation, legal and ethical standards in order to optimise health outcomes for patients and their families. 

 

This role is responsible for the coordination and maintenance of the quality activities to comply with the quality objectives and regulatory licensing requirements within the apheresis unit and related departments. Accreditation is currently held for TGA and NATA, and will be extended to FACT in the future. The purpose of this position is to provide clinical leadership capabilities that demonstrates the relationship between safe patient care within a regulatory environment of Apheresis and aligned departments.

 

The position will hold an education and project portfolio that will be developed with the apheresis leadership team and is in accordance with the haematology and apheresis service delivery plan. 

 

About you

You will have proven clinical leadership and experience relevant to the role, with excellent communication, interpersonal and team building skills.

 

You'll bring with you

  • Division 1 Registered Nurse with a minimum of 5 years’ acute oncology experience predominantly in Apheresis/Haematology
  • Expertise in a broad range of apheresis procedures
  • Post Graduate Qualifications in cancer nursing or related field
  • Evidence of commitment to evidence based practice and ongoing quality improvement in oncology/haematology nursing
  • Experience and expertise with the use of quality management systems and incident reporting systems (such as Riskman and Q-Pulse/Mastercontrol)
  • Leadership experience in GMP, FACT or NATA quality systems to sustain departmental compliance in the delivery of safe patient care in highly regulated environments
  • Knowledge and experience in ACHS accreditation

 

The ideal candidate may also meet the following desirable requirements:

  • Ability to provide consultancy expertise to external parties for either clinical trials or standard of care biologics
  • Certificate in workplace training or equivalent, or willingness to complete professional development in this area
  • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Certification
  • Project management experience or willingness to complete professional development in this area
  • Completion of or enrolled in Masters of Nursing (or equivalent)
  • Experience in document preparation, report writing, risk mitigation, change management

Key Accountabilities

1. Clinical Services

  • Ensuring treatment plan checking is completed in a timely and effective manner
  • Consultation on treatment techniques and radiotherapy planning approaches
  • Being a member of at least one Tumour Stream determined in conjunction with the director
  • Participation in and initiation of the development of new treatment techniques as appropriate
  • Contribution to department wide (cross campus) clinical services and their development
  • Acting as deputy to the campus lead physicist

2. Equipment related services

  • Performance and documentation of commissioning of equipment as required
  • Performance and documentation of routine and non-routine quality assurance of all equipment following repair and maintenance in line with departmental guidelines
  • Supervision of QA related activities of grade 1, 2 and 3 staff
  • Ensuring no preventable equipment-related failures occur
  • Support of department wide (cross campus) development of equipment related QA activities and procedures

3. Dosimetry related services

  • Oversight of dosimetry for at least one linear accelerator
  • Ensuring regular dosimetric audits for radiotherapy equipment at Peter Mac Bendigo campus

4. Safety related services

  • Ensuring radiation safety for patients, visitors and staff at Peter Mac Bendigo campus
  • Participation in OHS activities as required
  • Identification of all unsafe equipment or procedures

5. Professional knowledge, development and training

  • Maintenance of valid radiation use licence
  • Participation in CPD
  • Participation in teaching and education of other staff members including the ACPSEM Training, Education and Assessment Programme (TEAP)
  • Participation in research projects as determined in conjunction with the Director of Physical Sciences and the Research Lead Physicist
