A grade 3 position is available for a Nuclear Medicine Technologist to work within our Parkville facility. We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our team. The successful candidate will work as part of a busy department which provides a range of SPECT/CT and PET/CT imaging procedures, cold lab tests, and an active and expanding radionuclide therapy program. 

The role requires an NMT with exceptional technical skills and several years’ experience to be a subject matter expert for technical projects across a number of areas within the Molecular Imaging facility. These include but are not limited to, maintaining scanning equipment in a suitably qualified state for clinical and clinical research applications, coordinate the implementation of research protocols, and manage and coordinate the central reading service of imaging studies for clinical research trials. The candidate will be an integral part of maintaining and improving processes within the department. Although not essential candidates with a higher qualification, and those who are familiar with practical research experience including governance and ethics applications will be at an advantage. The role is usually requires 50% clinical NMT time and 50% technical project management time.

Nuclear Medicine Technologist AHPRA registration, a Victorian DHHS Radiation Use licence, a police check and a valid Working with Children permit are mandatory requirements.

Position Summary

Supervise the technical aspects of Molecular Imaging (MI), within the Cancer Imaging (CI) department
Be part of a senior staff team within the  NMT group to ensure it is capable of undertaking clinical and clinical research activities at the highest standard.
Provide technical and administrative support within  MI with an emphasis on the following:
Ensuring provision of a world class clinical service 
Identify and facilitate the introduction of new practices utilizing technology, particularly those relating to MI scanners.
Maintain and optimize performance of scanners,
Assist in maintaining the effective provision of MI services for clinical and research applications from a technical perspective
Ensure trial/research activities are performed to the highest standard and in a timely fashion
Coordinate Central Reading Service (CRS) with the assistance of the CNMT.

Essential Requirements 

  • B App Sci (Medical Radiations – Nuclear Medicine Technology) or equivalent
  • AHPRA registration as a Nuclear Med Tech
  • Victorian DHHS – Radiation Use License
  • Experience sufficient to obtain Good Clinical Practice certification
  • Demonstrated experience in advanced technological aspects of Molecular Imaging
  • Experience in Project management  including quality and safety, and/or practice improvement projects
  • Experience in research project management including research governance and ethics applications. 

Desirable Requirements 

  • (Highly Desirable) Higher academic qualification in relevant technical area 
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in NM and PET
  • High level project management and organisational skills, with a demonstrated ability to work independently.

1.Leadership Role

Maintain and optimize performance of imaging equipment, specifically ensuring equipment is qualified for trial participation and meets regulatory requirements
Consult with others to maintain and define protocols pertaining to the provision of services both clinical and research
Set a standard, with an emphasis on service excellence and efficiency
Expert knowledge of major technical systems including:
PACS
RIS
EMR
DICOM servers
DICOM study transfers

2.Implementation of new Technology

Ensure MI is represented when new technology is being introduced
Identify staff training requirements when new technology is introduced.
Assist in developing new projects with the Chief NMT,  Medical Director – Cancer Imaging and Molecular Imaging Modality Leads 
Participate in procurement and selection process for new technology
Provide ongoing support and enhancement of new technology

3.Scanner performance

Ensure scanner performance and associated documentations maintained at a suitably high standard 
Ensure all scanner cross calibrations and phantom validations are up to date.

4.Ensure optimal provision of research associated services

Represent MI and CI in forums where research project policy is determined
Ensure timely completion of obligations for sponsors
Provide advisory role as the molecular imaging subject matter expert to researchers participating in relevant areas of research
Conduct analyses and provide results of molecular imaging studies to internal and external researchers using methods consistent with ICH-GCP.

5.Assist Chief NMT
 Provide technical support to the Chief NMT.
Assist CNMT manage all aspects of equipment lifecycle relating to the Molecular Imaging service, especially major scanner acquisitions. This includes identifying needs, justifications procurement, maintenance and replacement. Relevant equipment should be identified on the MI Capital Equipment database.
Assist in the development of project bids for the provision of medical imaging services to external CROs
Manage the PeterMac Central Reading Service

6.General NMT Duties
 Perform all duties of Grade 2 NMT,where proficient to do so.
