About the role 
We have an exciting opportunity for a registered Music Therapist to join our dynamic Music Therapy team at Peter Mac on a casual basis.
This role supports children, young people and adults affected by cancer across the care continuum, including patients in active treatment, as well as carers, families and the bereaved. You will deliver high quality, evidence based music therapy that supports emotional, psychosocial, physical and spiritual wellbeing.
The position sits within the Allied Health Directorate, reporting to the Manager of Social Work, Music Therapy and Art Therapy, with clinical supervision provided by the Senior Music Therapist.

 

Remuneration
As per the ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONALS (VICTORIAN PUBLIC SECTOR) (SINGLE INTEREST EMPLOYERS) ENTERPRISE AGREEMENT 20212026. Grade 2 year 1 LD4 $45.66 [Hourly] - Grade 2 year 4 LD7 $ 52.49 [Hourly] Based on candidate experience.

Essential Requirements

 

  • Current registration as a Music Therapist with Australian Music Therapy Association Inc.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent interpersonal relationships and communication skills
  • Experience in the delivery of individual and group music therapy programs across the age spectrum, including family-centred practice and grief theoretical frameworks within the health setting
  • Familiarity with computer applications
  • Knowledge of music technology applicable to therapeutic practices

 

Desirable Requirements

 

  • Experience and interest in the care patients receiving palliative care
  • Familiarity with an electronic medical record

Current Registration as a Music Therapist with Australian Music Therapy Association Inc.

1. Provision of high quality music therapy to children, adolescents, young people, their families and groups.

 

  • Provides music therapy assessments involving emotional, physical, psychosocial and spiritual status.
  • Provides supportive and insight oriented music based experiences in accordance with patients who have a terminal cancer diagnosis.
  • Provides opportunities for participants to experience and participate in receptive, creative, compositional and improvisatory music therapy.
  • Prepares and uses developmentally appropriate, quality resources for clinical care.
  • Provides culturally appropriate services for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Clients (CALD).
  • Documentation in line with organizational requirements
  • Liaison with multidisciplinary team members and service providers with regards to music therapy service provision

 

2. Provide high quality music therapy education and program development.

 

  • Participation in the evaluation of music therapy services as appropriate.
  • Responsibility for professional self-development through personal performance review and involvement in learning opportunities.

 

3. Effective and efficient management of clinical and non-clinical workload to meet organizational and funder requirements.

 

  • Manages and prioritizes clinical workload in a manner which allows high quality service provision.
  • Attends relevant team and other meetings, and interacts in an appropriate manner.
  • Provides statistics of clinical services and contributes to patient records in accordance with the organisational requirements.
  • Provides reports to assist the development of music therapy service to Senior Music Therapist as required.
  • Participates in Public Relations opportunities, environmental music and speaking engagements as a representative of Peter Mac Cancer Centre.
