About the team
The Department of Anaesthetics, Perioperative Medicine and Pain Medicine provides specialised interdisciplinary care for oncology patients experiencing complex acute, subacute, and chronic cancer-related pain. Operating within a collaborative framework, our multidisciplinary team works closely with medical, surgical, and radiation oncology services to optimize analgesia, functional outcomes, and overall quality of life.
 
About the role
Part-time (0.2 FTE), fixed term parental leave cover 
We are seeking a dedicated Pain Medicine Specialist to provide parental leave cover for 14 weeks (1 day per week, 7 hours/day) from 26 November 2026 through 26 February 2027. In this role, you will deliver high-quality, specialized pain assessment and clinical management for complex cancer patients across inpatient consultation and outpatient clinic settings.
A regular day will see you:
  • Conduct clinical assessments and formulate evidence-based treatment plans for patients with complex cancer pain.
  • Provide expert Pain Medicine consultation and advice to multidisciplinary cancer teams across the hospital.
  • Rationalize and optimize complex analgesic regimens, including interventional pain strategies and non-pharmacological pain management.
  • Collaborate closely with nursing and allied health professionals to support holistic patient care.
About you
You are a compassionate, highly skilled medical specialist with expertise in complex cancer pain management. You thrive in a multidisciplinary team environment, communicate effectively with patients facing severe disease, and adapt seamlessly to high-standard tertiary workflows.
You’ll bring with you:
  • Specialist registration with AHPRA as a Pain Medicine Specialist (FFPMANZCA or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated clinical experience in assessing and managing complex cancer-related pain.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills within a patient-centred model of care.
  • Commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration, clinical governance, and high standards of care delivery.
