Campus Lead Medical Physicist Bendigo - FF16 + Rural Incentive

  • Remuneration: $210,450 p.a. basic salary + $12,000 rural allowance.

The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is Australia’s only public hospital solely dedicated to cancer and one of an elite group of hospitals worldwide with its own integrated cancer research program and laboratories.

 

Peter Mac boasts a comprehensive range of imaging, planning and treatment equipment distributed across five campuses; four metropolitan and one regional. This includes 7 Phillips Brilliance Big Bore CT scanners with 4D imaging capability, PET-CT scanner, 16 linear accelerators (15 Varian TrueBeams with advanced imaging capabilities and one Clinac), and a cloud-hosted, hospital-wide Varian Eclipse treatment planning system. We also support a variety of brachytherapy techniques.


Currently we have an opportunity to employ a campus lead physicist for our Bendigo campus. Bendigo is a thriving regional hub with all major amenities and a rich history  (https://www.bendigo.vic.gov.au/)

 

The Bendigo team consists of 3 permanent physicists and 1 medical physics registrar. Additional support for radiation safety, imaging and research is provided from the main campus in Melbourne. The lead role is responsible for physics operations for the site and is a core member of the campus-wide physics management team. The Physical Sciences’ department engages in a broad range of initiatives with each campus leading or participating in campus wide activities which sees most staff visit other campuses up to 10 days per year.

 

The ideal applicant will have technical and people leadership experience along with a desire to work with clinicians and explore opportunities for service development for regional and rural patients.    

 

The successful applicant will be appointed to the position of Lead Medical Physicist, FF16. The position will also attract a rural incentive allowance. Generous salary packaging options are available.

1. Medical Physics Site Lead

  • Manages all aspects of medical physics operations at the Bendigo site
  • Fosters Physical Sciences’ core principles of Safety, Quality and Innovation
  • Works with Bendigo leadership team to provide high quality medical physics services
  • Represents Bendigo in the Physical Sciences leadership team
  • Advises the director of Physical Sciences on all relevant matters pertaining to the Bendigo campus
  • Demonstrates excellent communication with all staff groups including radiation therapists, radiation oncologists and radiation engineers 
  • Continuously builds rapport with all staff

2. Manage the planning and provision of specialist medical physics services

  • Manages the planning and provision of quality assurance services for all patient treating equipment including Linear Accelerators, CT and SXRT 
  • Manages the planning and provision of patient specific quality assurance services
  • Manages the planning and provision of consulting support services to the multi-disciplinary team
  • Manages the planning and provision of radiation safety services for the site
  • Monitors, manages, plans and initiates programs to address risks and improve quality
  • Manages the planning and provision of commissioning activities  
  • Monitor and work closely with staff to ensure relevant departmental KPIs are met (machine QA, patient QA, radiation safety, commissioning, reports, quality, risk)

3. Advisory Services

  • Meets regularly with leadership to advise on a range of technical and scientific issues
  • Manages the provision of advisory services to the multi-disciplinary team
  • Manages the provision of patient advisory services
  • Provides technical and scientific advice to external organisations including government bodies including ACDS, ARPANSA and DHS    

4. Development

  • Manages the provision of clinical program development and integration services
  • Manages the provision of implementation services for new products and technologies
  • Ensures new programs and technology are implemented safely and in a timely manner
  • Fosters development and integration within the multi-disciplinary team

5. Co-ordinate work programs

At Peter Mac’s Bendigo campus: 
  • Manages the treatment machine quality assurance program 
  • Manages the patient specific quality assurance program
  • Manages and develops projects for non-planned work
  • Manages overall work program ensuring clinical requirements are met whilst also managing development, integration and project timelines
  • Ensures the quality assurance program complies with Peter Mac requirements with respect to documentation, and scope and frequency of tests
  • Co-ordinates work program at Bendigo campus with activities at other Peter Mac campuses
6. Physics Equipment & Consumables
  • Manages and maintains quality assurance equipment
  • Manages and maintains technical equipment and consumables
  • Manages and maintains procedural documentation ensuring the safe use of equipment
  • Trains and advises staff in proper use of equipment and consumables
  • Ensures equipment is calibrated to appropriate standards
  • Maintains equipment asset lists
  • Advises management on requirements for and procurement of new equipment
  • Places orders for consumables to provide timely clinical services
  • Supports standardisation of equipment and procedures across all of Peter Mac.
7. Financial
  • Advises management on short term and long term costs including maintenance, consumables, repairs and new equipment
  • Provides management with expertise for large expenditures such as linear accelerators and CT machines
  • Advises management about resources required to run services
  • Advises management about resources required to implement new technologies and services
  • Manages supplier relationships and ensures all quotes, invoices and payments are timely
8. Staff
  • Supervises all aspects of on-site medical physics staff operations
  • Provides sign off for on-site medical physics activities
  • Promotes an environment that is positive for staff well being 
  • Supervises and mentors senior medical physicists, medical physicists, junior medical physicists and medical physics registrars
  • Delegates work programs to ensure skills development and maintenance across all staff
  • Manage rosters and on-call program
