 Ongoing Part Time Role 

 

This position is a technician role within the pathology clinical trials unit (known as Nexomics, a business unit within the Department of Pathology). This role would suit laboratory technicians who have had previous experience within a diagnostic molecular laboratory.

Key accountabilities for this role include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Providing molecular testing in the area of molecular pathology by use of various techniques including DNA/RNA extraction, real-time PCR, next-generation sequencing and DNA sequencing.
  • Demonstration of an understanding of customer service for internal and external customers and a commitment to effectively meeting their needs in a helpful and professional manner.
  • Keeps patient information confidential.
  • Monitors, and adheres to key performance indicators.
  • All documentation is completed including procedures, maintenance records and quality assurance procedures according to laboratory, NATA ISO15189 and 17025, GCP, GLP and GDP standards.

Victorian Department of Health has recently announced a program of reforms across the public pathology system in Victoria.
As part of these reforms, the pathology services from the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, the Royal Women’s Hospital and the Royal Children’s Hospital will transition to a new separate public pathology entity. The new model for delivering public pathology services will present an exciting opportunity to improve the scope, scale and reach of pathology services and testing capability to all Victorians.
As this role is with Parkville, the successful candidate for this role will be initially employed by Parkville Once the new public pathology entity is fully formed, which is anticipated to be in late 2024, this position and the successful candidate’s employment (including terms and conditions of employment) will transition to the new public pathology entity. Position Summary

A laboratory technician performing molecular testing as part of our Pathology Clinical Trials team (known as Nexomics).  This role would suit laboratory technicians who have had previous experience within a diagnostic molecular laboratory who has performed tasks such as DNA/RNA extraction, next-generation sequencing, PCR, ctDNA and routine molecular duties.  Previous experience in clinical trials would be highly regarded.

This role would suit a candidate that enjoys working in a dynamic environment, can effectively communicate with their co-workers to ensure that all testing is completed within appropriate time frames and has the ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks.  We provide testing for a number of global clinical trials so strong written and verbal communication skills are essential when liaising with our sponsors.

Skills

  • Experience in diagnostics, research laboratory or clinical trial testing.
  • Experience in one or more of the following disciplines; cell separation, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, NGS and other molecular methodologies.
  • Demonstrable abilities to work effectively within a team.
  • Works well under pressure and enjoys diverse portfolio of duties as required by the clinical trial portfolio.
  • Enjoys flexible work environment.
  • Recognised scientific training and competence relevant to the position including appropriate knowledge and experience in laboratory services, quality systems and information technology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and promptly utilising electronic and other means
