YOUR ROLE IN OUR FUTURE
Fixed Term Full Time
Peter Mac Clinical Flow Cytometry laboratory is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic medical laboratory technician to join our team in this 12 months fixed term Full-time position backfilling a secondment. The successful applicant will have strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task and able to support the team with sample receipt, triaging and processing, reagent reconstitution and stocktake and instrument maintenance. Experience with flow cytometry processes and instrumentation is essential and strong knowledge and experience with haemato-oncology is strongly desirable.
- 80 Hours per fortnight +ADO
- You will have an appropriate qualification or equivalent (eg Diploma of Laboratory Technician).
- Inline with the Enterprise Agreement Allied Health Professionals (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2021 - 2025 Salary range between $59K-$72K pro rata based on years of experience.

Victorian Department of Health has endorsed the initiative to restructure existing public pathology by bringing together laboratories into pathology networks operating under a lead health service.
Pathology services from the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, the Royal Women’s Hospital and the Royal Children’s Hospital will transition to a single pathology service. This creates an exciting opportunity to strengthen the scope, scale and reach of pathology services across the Parkville precinct to benefit all Victorians.
This role will transition to the new lead health service for pathology services once determined.

Position Summary
Provision and of a high quality, effective and innovative clinical flow cytometry service within Haematopathology that meets the requirements of NATA as per ISO 15189 (Medical Testing), the code of Good Manufacturing Practice for Human Blood and Tissues (cGMP) and the clinical needs of patients. Support clinical research and development projects.

Appropriate qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent with specific training in haematology and clinical flow cytometry (eg Diploma Lab Technology, Advanced Diploma in laboratory operations).

Essential Requirements •
• Specific experience in delivering an ISO15189 compliant service.
• Recognised scientific training and competence relevant to the position including knowledge in flow cytometry, haematology, analytical methods and information systems (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, LIMS)
• Demonstrable ability to perform sample receipt, sample processing, reagent receipt and quality assessment and other technical duties.
• Professional approach to patient care, service confidentiality and provision of pathology/testing services.
• Demonstrable ability to meet the clinical expectations of clients.
• Demonstrable ability to work and communicate cooperatively in a team including other scientists, senior scientists, pathologists, nursing staff, clinical staff and researchers.
• Responsible attitude and work ethic.
Desirable Requirements
• Member of Australian Institute of Medical Scientists (AIMS)
• Participation in APACE CPD Program
• Experience and technical knowledge in Haematopoietic Progenitor Cell (HPC) processing/transplantation
• Safe and efficient performance of technical duties, including specimen receipt/confirmation, processing, test performance according to Flow Cytometry laboratory SOPs
• Ability to generate high quality results with acceptable turn-around times by the appropriate and efficient use of flow cytometry lab systems.
• Supervise, delegate and communicate effectively with scientists, technicians and trainees.
• Communicate and work effectively with entire CSR team.
• Communicate and work effectively with all Corelab team.
• Ensure overdue and pending test lists are attended to in a timely manner.

• Ensures all laboratory SOPs are reviewed and acknowledged in a timely manner
• Laboratory equipment records are completed including start-up procedures, maintenance records, quality assurance and shutdown procedures according to laboratory, NATA and ISO 15189 standards and protocols.
• Episode records indicate the results were communicated to the clinician as per laboratory procedures.
• Senior scientific, medical and nursing staff are notified of any significant scientific or technical problems in a timely manner.
• Courteous and efficient communication with customers.
• Ability to prioritise workflow based on clinical needs
• Communicates and cooperates with co-workers to ensure work is completed.
• Able to adapt and support co-workers based on workload.
• Effective communication with all staff as appropriate. Regularly provides scientific, clinical and technical advice within the laboratory and hospital

• Adheres to appropriate quality assurance documentation and procedures of the laboratory.
• Promptly reports procedural breakdowns and incidents.
• Non-conformance reports (NCRs) documents are completed as required.
• Laboratory staff participates in educational training courses, clinical and scientific meetings.
• Working towards APACE Certification (100 CEU points over 2 years).
• Personal development to be reflected in training records which must be kept up to date, including records of meetings and training.
• Maintains and develops own specialised skills and embraces skill extension, innovation and change.
