About the role

 

You will join a dynamic team, dedicated to excellence in clinical and translational research with Peter Mac’s Global Industry Research Alliances (GIRA).  The GIRA program currently comprises five formal academic network-based industry research partnerships with leading global pharmaceutical companies including Amgen, AstraZeneca, BMS, GSK and Roche. Peter Mac is the only Australian organisation in these networks.  These partnerships allow Peter Mac to work alongside global industry leaders as well as peers at world-leading cancer research centers to foster collaboration and innovation in drug discovery, drug development and collaborative clinical and translational research, enhancing outcomes to benefit our patients. This formally structured program has continued to grow and it is expected that we will expand this portfolio beyond the current alliance partnerships.

 

The Global Industry Research Alliances (GIRA) Manager is a senior role, with direct responsibility managing several of the individual industry alliance relationships and research portfolios within the team and reports into the Head, GIRA.  The objective of the program is to drive high quality, high impact clinical and translational research, including supporting our world class researchers at Peter Mac in maximising the benefits of these industry networks.

 

This will be a dynamic and interesting role for a motivated candidate with cancer research experience in the health care, clinical trials, pharmaceutical, medical affairs and/or biotechnology sectors. They will work collaboratively with Peter Mac’s leading clinical and translational researchers, with the industry alliance partners and a number of other key stakeholders.  The GIRA program fosters collaboration and innovation in drug discovery, drug development and clinical and translational research.

 

Key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Manage key industry relationships, supporting growth in collaborations, clinical trials, research projects and investments between GIRA partners and Peter Mac.
  • Oversee execution of projects according to agreed plans and deliverables, ensuring project success, budgeting and contract facilitation. 
  • Actively promote Peter Mac clinical and research capabilities through direct industry partner interactions and meetings exchanging information on programs, portfolio and projects. 
  • Support Peter Mac clinical and translational researchers with development of project proposals, budgets, feasibility, contracts, clinical trial operations and ongoing support of projects to ensure milestones are achieved. 

 

About you

 

You are highly motivated and thrive in a collaborative environment. You demonstrate initiative, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.  You have a good understand of the complexity of investigator driven clinical & translational research from developing complex proposals, budgets, project management and contracts.

 

You’ll bring with you:

  • Degree in a relevant health or scientific discipline, with post graduate qualifications highly regarded.
  • Excellent communication, organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Able to work in a team environment, able to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment, adaptable and ability to problem solve.
  • Cancer research experience in the health care, clinical trials, pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology sectors and knowledge of clinical trial regulations.

Position Summary

Peter Mac’s Global Industry Research Alliances program (GIRA) comprises five formal academic network-based industry partnerships as well as a portfolio of other strategic research alliances.

Essential Requirements
  • An appropriate tertiary qualification in Health Sciences or a closely aligned medical-sector.
  • Cancer research experience in the health care, clinical trials, pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology sectors.
  • Sound knowledge of drug development from discovery to market.
  • Sound understanding of investigator-initiated clinical and/or translational research.
  • Knowledge of clinical trial regulations, both nationally and internationally, including TGA, FDA and ICH Good Clinical Practice.
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing and presenting reports, reviewing complex proposals, including those involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and managing contracts, budgets, financial management, risk and compliance.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, respond to emerging needs and problem solve.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Peter Mac stakeholders, external industry partners and staff at all levels.

1. Alliance Portfolio and Project Management      
  • Manage key industry relationships, acting as the primary point of contact in the relevant industry portfolios.
  • Support the establishment of successful and sustainable industry partnerships demonstrated by growth in collaborations, clinical trials, research projects and investments between alliance partners and Peter Mac.
  • Support Peter Mac laboratory and clinical researchers with development of project proposals, budgets, feasibility, contracts and ongoing support of research projects to ensure milestones and reporting requirements are achieved.

  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of portfolio and project progress reports to all key internal and external stakeholders as per the relevant contracts, agreements and/or project plan.

2. Collaboration and Relationship Management
  • Actively promote Peter Mac clinical and research capabilities through direct industry partner interactions and meetings
  • Attend regular meetings with industry partners as required to exchange information on programs, portfolio and projects.
  • Establish relationships with the Peter Mac clinical trials teams ensuring good communication and processes to facilitate clinical trial operations.
  • Work with the Head GIRA, the Associate Director Clinical Research and GIRA Steering Committee to prepare proposals, briefings and communications for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Establish a communication schedule to update both internal stakeholders and industry partners stakeholders on the program, research projects and clinical trials.
  • Optimise communication strategies related to industry partnerships, working with relevant departments at Peter Mac and the Communications team.
  • Support engagements, meetings and visits with Industry partners, ensuring good communication, scheduling, agendas and successful execution.
  • Present at relevant internal and external meetings related to commercial projects.
  • Travel to necessary national and/or international meetings/sites to facilitate communication with industry partners.
