  • Salary Range $83k - 92k (1.0 EFT) + salary packaging + super + 5 weeks annual leave (pro-rata)

The LIS Support Officer plays a key role in the day-to-day operational support of the Laboratory Information System (Auslab) within the pathology department. This role is focused on ensuring the stability and reliability of the LIS, supporting users with issue resolution, maintaining data integrity, and working closely with laboratory and clinical teams to optimise system performance.

 

Requirements:

  • Experience in pathology or IT support
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage priorities
  • Experience with Auslab highly desirable 

 

Victorian Department of Health has endorsed the initiative to restructure existing public pathology by bringing together laboratories into pathology networks operating under a lead health service. 

Pathology services from the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, the Royal Women’s Hospital and the Royal Children’s Hospital will transition to a single pathology service.  This creates an exciting opportunity to strengthen the scope, scale and reach of pathology services across the Parkville precinct to benefit all Victorians.
This role will transition to the new lead health service for pathology services once determined.

Internal
Collaboration with staff in relation to Business Applications matters as required achieving the organisations business objectives.
Clinicians and internal clients, Pathology scientists and researchers, IT staff, Infectious Disease staff.  All other hospital staff.

Liaison with vendors and agencies of government, insurers and professional bodies as required achieving the organisations business objectives.
Extensive liaison with external vendors and users of Pathology services.

Essential Requirements

Utilize and maintain job tracking software
Software maintenance and configuration 
Document internal procedures
Perform and document software Unit, Functional, Integration, Acceptance Testing packages and plans
Prepare testing and implementation instructions
Perform data extraction, SQL queries and report compilation.
Communication with all staff as appropriate and provide status reports
General experience in supporting PCs in a networked environment, printers and spoolers, and other relevant IT equipment
MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and other relevant systems.
Professional approach to patient care, service confidentiality and provision of pathology/testing services.
Demonstrable ability to meet the clinical expectations of clients.
Superior development as well as administration skills essential.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills to a non-technical audience.
Strong interpersonal skills with sound ability to influence staff.
Ability to work as a team member - either giving or receiving directions or sharing knowledge with other members of the team and demonstrable ability to work and communicate cooperatively in a team including other scientists, senior scientists, pathologists, nursing staff, clinical staff and researchers.

Desirable Requirements 

Knowledge and experience in AUSLAB Pathology LIMS or similar
Experience with writing in SQL.
Financial skills relevant to billing/accounts receivable support and clinical costing projects.
Knowledge of Medicare Australia and insurance fund billing principles.
