Junior Linux Systems Administrator
- 12-month Fixed-Term, Full-Time position
- 80 hours per fortnight with monthly ADO's
- $74,448.40 AUD p.a.
We are seeking applicants that possess excellent troubleshooting skills, have a background or an interest in computational biology and have a passion for Linux, learning and helping others.
The successful applicant will be required to assist with the following tasks:
- Assist with troubleshooting and remediation of clinical bioinformatics pipelines.
- Configuration and deployment of clinical pipelines.
- The administration, maintenance and technical support of Linux computer systems and platforms managed by the Research Computing Facility.
- Ensuring that the Linux Computing ICT infrastructure is maintained and functioning as required.
- Ensuring that all software infrastructure is maintained at an acceptable and consistent level of performance through regular optimization.
- Ensuring the security of Research Computing Facility systems and software through regular updates, management of authorization and authentication systems and log analysis.
- Support for users with day-to-day research, software, and data management issues and other tasks as specified by the Lead Systems Administrator - Research Computing Facility.

Position Summary

Experience and skills
- Excellent troubleshooting skills.
- An understanding of computational biology and bioinformatics workflows.
- Basic programming/scripting skills in languages such as Shell scripting, Python and Perl.
- Experience using Linux operating Systems, particularly Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, or Fedora.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Awareness or experience in containers.
- Awareness or experience with virtualisation technologies, (eg KVM or VMware vSphere).
- Understanding of networking technologies.
- Experience in help-desk ticketing systems (eg Service Now).
- Exposure to DevOps technologies and workflow tools (eg. GitHub).
- Exposure to provisioning technologies (eg. Red Hat kickstart, Satellite)
