Human Factors Fellow / Research Officer
This 24-month fixed term part time position (0.5 to 0.8 EFT) offers an exciting opportunity for a proactive and highly motivated Human Factors and Ergonomics or Implementation Science professional with experience in Systems Thinking and Digital Health to join our team and help spearhead the development of the National Cancer Cohort Platform in collaboration with Cancer Cohorts, Clinician researchers, the Research Computing Facility, and BioGrid Australia.
In this role, the Human Factors Fellow will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to enhance the design and development of the National Cancer Cohort Platform by integrating human factors principles, aiming to optimise usability and performance.
The project “Optimising real-world data use to drive cancer care delivery and research,” funded by the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) aims to integrate data from influential clinical cohort studies into a single, powerful platform contributing to our understanding and treatment of cancer.

Education
Skills
- PhD in Human Factors and Ergonomics with Systems Thinking skills or a related discipline
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to human factors
- Experience in digital health technologies, with a strong understanding of healthcare systems
- Experience in designing user interfaces, controls, and displays that maximize user performance and satisfaction
- Demonstrates expertise and experience in undertaking health services research, particularly in hospital settings
- Demonstrates a track record of impactful research and publications in their field
- Demonstrates a strong track record of effectively working in multi-disciplinary teams, including academic, industry and professional institutions, health partners, and stakeholders

Key Accountabilities
1. Human Factors Leadership
- Using a Systems Thinking approach advise on Human Factors issues for the design and development of the National Cancer Cohort Platform (NCCP), ensuring alignment with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Lead and facilitate project change initiatives to seamlessly integrate Human Factors considerations.
- Foster awareness and understanding of human factors principles among project stakeholders involved in design, development, and implementation.
- Participate actively in team, hub, and community of practice meetings, contributing insights and engaging in discussions.
2. User-Centred Design
- Collaborate with researchers, clinicians, consumers, and data management experts to conduct user research, usability testing, and analysis to understand user needs and behaviours and inform the design and development of the National Cancer Cohort Platform (NCCP).
- Participate in design activities to ensure that the platform's design and user interfaces meet business needs and accessibility guidelines. Focus on creating intuitive, user-friendly interfaces that are easy to navigate and optimize performance.
- Identify human factors issues and risks in platform design and development. Evaluate their potential business impacts and contribute to developing mitigation strategies. Provide recommendations for improving the platform based on these assessments.

3. Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with software designers, developers, cohorts, and other stakeholders to incorporate human factors considerations across the entire development process of the NCCP.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal and external project partners to enhance project engagement and optimise platform design.
- Deliver training and guidance to team members on human factors principles and best practice.
- Lead and participate in meetings with project partners to collaborate on project objectives and progress.
