About the program

Peter Mac’s Global Industry Research Alliances program (GIRA) comprises a number formal academic network-based industry partnerships as well as a portfolio of other strategic research alliances. These networks allow Peter Mac to work alongside industry leaders and peers at world-leading cancer research centres to foster collaboration and innovation in drug discovery and drug development, enhancing outcomes that benefit our patients. The formally structured program was established in 2016 and has continued to grow since that time. It is expected that we will expand this portfolio beyond the 5 current alliance partnerships.

About the role

The Head, Global Research Alliances will manage a small team that is tasked with delivering this program for Peter Mac, working collaboratively with Peter Mac researchers and with external global alliance partners. In addition to managing the broader global alliances program, the Head will also have direct responsibility in managing some of the key individual alliance relationships.

The Head, Global Industry Research Alliances will report directly to the Associate Director, Clinical Research and work together with the Director Partnerships and Enterprise and the Manager Parkville Cancer Clinical Trials Unit (PCCTU) to ensure alignment with Peter Mac’s broader partnerships and clinical trials portfolio.

Essential Requirements

An appropriate tertiary qualification in Health Sciences or a closely aligned medical- sector.
Cancer research experience in the health care, clinical trials, pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology sectors
Sound knowledge of drug development from discovery to market.
Sound understanding of investigator-initiated research.
Knowledge of clinical trial regulations, including TGA, FDA and ICH Good Clinical Practice.
Outstanding interpersonal communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.
Demonstrated experience in writing and presenting reports, complex proposals, including those involving multiple stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience in financial management, developing and managing contracts, budgets, risk and compliance.
Highly developed project management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and respond to emerging needs.
Ability to work collaboratively with Peter Mac stakeholders, external partners and staff at all levels of the alliance program.
Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, exercise judgment and sensitivity, and initiative to identify and rectify problems.
Advanced IT skills, including expert use of standard applications and familiarity with databases/document management systems.

Strategy Development	Support the Associate Director Clinical Research and the Global Research Alliances Steering committee to develop the strategic plan for the program.
Alliance Program Management	Manage the establishment of successful and sustainable research alliances demonstrated by growth in partnerships and investments between alliance partners and Peter Mac. Manage and support Head Agreements between Alliance partners and Peter Mac. Support Peter Mac laboratory and clinical researchers with development of project proposals, budgets and contracts. Support Peter Mac clinical researchers and the PCCTU in facilitating alliance sponsored clinical trials being conducted at PeterMac. Oversee execution of projects according to agreed timelines, milestones, budget and deliverables. Lead and oversee the monitoring and reporting of project performance indicators and milestone achievements across the program. Submit project progress and reports to all key internal and external stakeholders per agreed project plans. Ensure that all research projects adhere to Peter Mac, National and International research guidelines.
Leadership and Team Management	Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment. Actively lead a cohesive team: motivate, coach, and manage staff to achieve team and individual goals. Provide clear performance expectations, regular feedback and document performance outcomes.
Collaboration and Relationship Building	Actively promote Peter Mac and its research capabilities through direct industry partner interface. Work with the Associate Director Clinical Research and Global Research Alliances Steering Committee to prepare proposals, briefings and communications for internal and external stakeholders. Establish a communication schedule to update both internal and external stakeholders on the progress proposals and the program. With the Research Communications Advisors, optimise communication strategies related to industry alliances, working with relevant departments at Peter Mac. Manage and maintain communications with Global Research Partners in line with agreed processes. Manage engagements with Global Research Partners. Present at relevant internal meetings related to commercial research projects. Travel to necessary national/ international meetings/sites to facilitate communication with industry partners.
