The Peter Mac Graduate Nurse Program (GNP) is designed to assist newly graduated registered nurses to transition into an acute care setting, over a 12-month period. The program provides opportunities for graduate nurses to consolidate and expand their clinical judgement and confidence while working as valued members of our organisation. Our Graduate Nurse Program is structured to encourage reflective practice and help new nurses identify the many possibilities available in their nursing career.

There will be more than 30 graduate nurse positions available in 2026, with intakes in February and March.

Graduate nurses will be allocated to one or two of the following clinical areas:

•    Medical Oncology
•    Surgical Oncology

•    Operating Theatres- Anaesthetics/PACU & Scrub Scout
•    Chemotherapy Day Unit – Medical Day Unit/Transfusion Lounge and
•    Day Of Surgery & Short Stay Unit
•    Radiotherapy
•    Palliative Care
•    Specialist Clinics

Successful applicants will be employed on a part time (0.8 EFT) ongoing contract. Graduate nurses allocated to Operating Theatres will be employed full time (1 EFT).

Graduate nurses will complete two 6-month rotations. Exception: Operating Theatres and Day Therapy graduate nurses will be allocated to these areas for the duration of the program (12-months).

•    Letter of application
•    Curriculum Vitae including a list of clinical placements

•    You will need to provide your referee details to the PMCV Allocation and Placement Service

Face to face interviews will be held in July/August 2025.

These nursing positions are ongoing upon successful completion of the Graduate Nurse Program (GNP), provided all program requirements have been met. Continued employment will occur either within a clinical ward/unit at Peter Mac or as part of our dynamic Nurse Pool, which offers experience across a variety of departments.

A competitive interview process will take place towards the end of the GNP to support graduate nurses in securing a position aligned with their interests and career goals. Peter Mac will actively support the nurses placed in the Nurse Pool to transition into a permanent clinical area, based on their preferences and available opportunities.

In addition, all nurses will enter the 12-month Cancer Nursing Professional Practice Pathway (CNPPP), designed to support and guide their continued professional development as early-career cancer nurses.
