Our upper GI unit manages complex oesophagogastric cancer cases and performs endoscopic and minimally invasive (robotic and laparoscopic) procedures.
YOUR ROLE IN OUR FUTURE
This is a fixed 12 month term position for an experienced fellow in upper gastrointestinal surgery. Our upper GI fellow will be responsible for peri operative patient care, involves in complex cancer operations and has the opportunity to participate in the acute surgical on call service at the adjacent Royal Melbourne Hospital.

1. Providing the highest standard of patient care |
- Provide surgical care to appropriate patients - Provision and maintenance of high level of clinical skills. - Responsible to the Director of Division of Cancer Surgery and Chairs of Service for Gastrointestinal Surgery services. - Commitment to the values of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and commitment to the Hospital's Code of Ethical Conduct. - Excellent skills and competencies as a clinician and excellent communication skills with patients, their families and one's colleagues. |
2. Providing educational support and development | - Supervise HMOs/Registrars allocated to the upper gastrointestinal general team. - Regular attendance at Departmental, Hospital and Specialty educational meetings and audit meetings as required. - Ongoing involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching/training. - Ongoing supervision and training of Junior Medical staff. - Participation in annual credentialing program. - Teaching commitment and skills in the areas of undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education. - Ongoing involvement with and encouragement of Research. - Commitment to continuing Education/Self development and Quality Improvement activities as supported by the Hospital's staff education initiatives. |
3. Timely completion of all administrative requirements | - Completion of clinical records, operating reports and outpatient letters within acceptable time frames. - Timely attendance at scheduled Operating Suite and outpatient sessions. - Timely application and management of approved leave. - Participation in appropriate clinical audit and other hospital activities. - Commitment to Hospital/corporate objectives, develop trusting staff relationships and generate team confidence, direct and control professionals improvements, exercise stewardship over available resources to ensure the efficient and effective use of available funds. |
