 Research and Clinical Fellowship

  • 12-month fixed-term, full-time position

About the role

This role offers an integrated research and clinical fellowship within Radiation Oncology, with a strong focus on PET imaging, theranostics and translational research. The primary goal is to execute research that intersects between advanced radiotherapy and nuclear medicine technologies. This will be a predominantly research-based fellowship, with some supervised clinical practice in radiation oncology.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervised clinical practice in Radiation Oncology at fellow level
  • Extending training towards FRANZCR (Radiation Oncology) or equivalent
  • Participation in  translational research activities, and/or wet-laboratory research
  • Enrolment in, or continuation of, a higher research degree alongside clinical duties

About you

Essential requirements

  • Medical qualification registrable in Victoria
  • Postgraduate qualification in Radiation Oncology (FRANZCR or equivalent), recognised by RANZCR
  • Ability to work with relative independence in a wet-laboratory environment
  • Competence in basic laboratory techniques
  • Enrolment in, or planned enrolment in, a higher research degree

Desirable requirements

  • Completion or submission of a doctoral thesis (e.g. PhD)
  • Research qualification
  • Ability to build effective relationships with external agencies
  • Strong interpersonal skills across multidisciplinary teams
  • Effective communication skills with patients, families, referrers and the broader community

Position Summary

The Radiation Oncology Fellow will divide their time between clinical practice in radiation oncology and defined research project(s), with 0.6 FTE allocated to clinical duties and 0.4 FTE allocated to research. In their clinical role, it is expected that successful candidate will be able to practice as radiation oncologist, with minimal supervision. It is expected that the fellow will contribute to the academic productivity of their tumour stream, including successful completion of their research project and active participation in other research, clinical and educational activities of the unit.

  • Completed specialist training in radiation oncology, or be expected to complete your specialist training before commencing this position.

1. To undertake duties as directed by the Head of Clinical unit.

  • Satisfactory performance of Research Project duties.

2. Attend all multi-disciplinary, departmental and other meetings relevant to the clinical and/or research components of the position.

  • Regular attendance at the relevant regular educational activities, with attendance in the Departmental Translational research meeting being mandatory.

3. Undertake case presentations, literature searches, clinical reviews and research studies as part of the Divisional academic program.

  • Satisfactory progress towards completion of research project.

4. Participate in relevant CME and CPD programs of the Faculty of Radiation Oncology of the RANZCR conducted within the Institute.

  • Demonstrated participation in CME and/or CPD programs.

5. To undergo review of performance development prior to completion of Fellowship.

  • Satisfactory review of performance development completed prior to completion of Fellowship.
