We welcome applicants for clinical-research fellows in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.  Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is a world leading cancer research, education and treatment centre and Australia’s only public health service solely dedicated to caring for people affected by cancer.

 

The radiation oncology fellow will divide their time between clinical practice in radiation oncology and defined research projects, with 0.6 FTE allocated to clinical duties and 0.4 FTE allocated to research, for an 86 hour fortnight.

 

In their clinical role, it is expected that successful candidates will be able to practice as radiation oncologists with minimal supervision.  Fellows will also contribute to the academic productivity of their tumour stream, including successful completion of research projects and active participation in other research, clinical and educational activities of the unit.  Fellowship roles are suitable for those who are within 5 years of obtaining their specialist training. 

 

In 2025, the following fellowship positions/tumour streams are available:

  • Combined Haematology / Cutaneous lymphoma / Lung fellowship (February or August 2025 start)
  • Breast (February or August 2025 start)
  • Gynaecology (February or August 2025 start)
  • Skin (August 2025 start)

Successful candidates will be required to have a medical degree registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), full Australian work rights (ie citizenship or relevant visa if required), and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiology (FRANZCR) in Radiation Oncology or equivalent specialist training.  Trainees in final stages of specialist training must have successfully completed training prior to commencing in the role.

Essential Requirements

 

  • Medical qualification registrable in Victoria
  • Completed specialist training in radiation oncology, or be expected to complete your specialist training before commencing this position.

  • Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with medical, paramedical and clerical staff
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, referring practitioners and other members in the community

  • Satisfactory performance of Research Project duties.

2. Attend all multi-disciplinary, departmental and other meetings relevant to the clinical and/or research components of the position.

  • Regular attendance at the relevant regular educational activities, with attendance in the Departmental Translational research meeting being mandatory.

3. Undertake case presentations, literature searches, clinical reviews and research studies as part of the Divisional academic program.

  • Satisfactory progress towards completion of research project.

4. Participate in relevant CME and CPD programs of the Faculty of Radiation Oncology of the RANZCR conducted within the Institute.

  • Demonstrated participation in CME and/or CPD programs.

5. To undergo review of performance development prior to completion of Fellowship.

  • Satisfactory review of performance development completed prior to completion of Fellowship.
