Outcomes for patients with brain cancer have changed little in decades. At Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, we are redefining how new therapies are discovered, developed, and delivered. This fellowship offers an opportunity to work at the forefront of neuro-oncology, early-phase trials, and translational research, embedded within a globally unique perioperative drug development platform.

 

Overview:

Join a world-leading centre of excellence in cancer care, clinical trials, and research. This highly mentored Neuro-Oncology Fellowship places you at the centre of a rapidly evolving field, with direct exposure to innovative trial design, precision oncology, and next-generation therapeutics. Designed for Advanced Trainees nearing completion of FRACP or recent fellows, this role integrates you into a dynamic and internationally recognised clinical trials ecosystem, where you will actively contribute to shaping the future of brain cancer care.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality care to patients within the Neuro-Oncology unit, including those enrolled in clinical trials
  • Participate in outpatient clinics and multidisciplinary care across the neuro-oncology stream
  • Contribute to the conduct and delivery of early-phase and biomarker-driven clinical trials
  • Collaborate closely with medical, surgical, and radiation oncology teams
  • Engage with molecular oncology, genomics, and translational research platforms
  • Contribute to protocol development, data analysis, and academic publications

Essential Requirements: 

  • Medical Qualifications registerable by the Medical Board of Victoria
  • Completed at least two core years of registrar level of training in medical oncology
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team setting
  • Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with medical staff and other disciplines
  • Previous clinical trial experience an advantage

1. Provides high quality patient care using an evidence based, cost effective approach. 

 

  • Attendance to selected outpatient clinics and clinics in Day Ward
  • Completes all patient related documentation according to the Centre’s needs
  • Participates in after-hour and weekend cover roster for medical oncology
  • Liaises and communicates with the multidisciplinary treating team
  • Contributes to team meetings and educational activities
  • Actively and regularly participates in peer review patient related activities 
  • Participates in departmental research projects and audits
  • Works effectively with all internal and external stakeholders
  • Close liaison with specialist members of the medical oncology Unit 
  • Follows hospital policies and procedures 

 

2. Clinical Research Protocol Development

 

  • Enrols and manages patients on clinical trials
  • Participates in clinical trial management (if appropriate) 
  • Develops clinical research protocols, including preparation, submission to committees, analysis and manuscript preparation (if appropriate) 

 

3. Manuscript preparation 

 

  • Prepares and submits manuscripts (trial results, case reports, reviews, book chapters etc.) 

 

4. Translational Research development 

 

  • Participates in laboratory research activities (as applicable) 

 

5. Medical Oncology and Protocol Development 

 

  • Coordinates and develops/updates medical oncology protocol book/intranet site
