Breast and Neuro Fellow

Overview:

Join a world-leading centre of excellence in cancer care, clinical trials, and research at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. We are excited to offer a unique joint Breast and Neuro-Oncology Fellowship, a highly mentored position that places you at the forefront of next-generation cancer treatment and translational science across two dynamic specialties. 

Designed for Advanced Trainees who are completing or have recently completed their FRACP, this fellowship integrates you into our dynamic clinical trials ecosystem. Here, you’ll play an integral role in shaping the future of cancer care while gaining substantial exposure to precision medicine, novel therapeutics, and innovative trial designs.

 

Key Responsibilities:
Provide high-quality care to patients within the Breast and Neuro Oncology units including those enrolled in clinical trials, with a focus on innovative therapies, molecularly targeted agents and novel combinations. 
Collaborate with the Breast and Neuro Oncology tumour streams, managing related cancer trials and participating in outpatient clinics. 
Contribute to clinical trial operations and deliver expert medical oncology care within a multidisciplinary team. 
Engage with platforms in molecular oncology and genomics with integration into clinical trials and clinically focused translational research.

  • Effective working relationships with medical oncology registrars, haematology registrars and other fellows, resident staff, consultants, nursing and allied health staff.
  • Effective working relationships with all staff involved in clinical trials. 
  • Readiness to take direction and willingness to learn from supervisors, other members of the team and other colleagues.

Skills

Essential Requirements: 

  • Medical Qualifications registerable by the Medical Board of Victoria
  • Completed at least two core years of registrar level of training in medical oncology
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team setting
  • Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with medical staff and other disciplines
  • Previous clinical trial experience an advantage

1. Provides high quality patient care using an evidence based, cost effective approach. 

 

  • Attendance to selected outpatient clinics and clinics in Day Ward
  • Completes all patient related documentation according to the Centre’s needs
  • Participates in after-hour and weekend cover roster for medical oncology
  • Liaises and communicates with the multidisciplinary treating team
  • Contributes to team meetings and educational activities
  • Actively and regularly participates in peer review patient related activities 
  • Participates in departmental research projects and audits
  • Works effectively with all internal and external stakeholders
  • Close liaison with specialist members of the medical oncology Unit 
  • Follows hospital policies and procedures 

 

2. Clinical Research Protocol Development

 

  • Enrols and manages patients on clinical trials
  • Participates in clinical trial management (if appropriate) 
  • Develops clinical research protocols, including preparation, submission to committees, analysis and manuscript preparation (if appropriate) 

 

3. Manuscript preparation 

 

  • Prepares and submits manuscripts (trial results, case reports, reviews, book chapters etc.) 

 

4. Translational Research development 

 

  • Participates in laboratory research activities (as applicable) 

 

5. Medical Oncology and Protocol Development 

 

  • Coordinates and develops/updates medical oncology protocol book/intranet site
