Phase 1 Early Drug Development Fellow
Full Time – 2 Positions

 

Overview:
The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is recognised globally as a leader in Cancer Drug Development, is the largest unit in Australia, and conducts a large number of early phase trials. With a strong focus on immuno-oncology and molecularly targeted therapies, including first in man trials with new agents and novel combinations, along with the integration of innovative platforms such as genomics into clinical trials; this position provides an outstanding opportunity to develop experience in the development of cancer drugs/clinical trials and clinically-focused translational research. This is a highly mentored position, which is embedded into the Phase I/Early Drug Development Program, and provides a unique opportunity to work closely with a number of global leaders in their respective fields. 

 

Key Responsibilities:
Provide high-quality care to patients enrolled in early-phase clinical trials, with a focus on innovative therapies such as immuno-oncology, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), and molecularly targeted agents, including first-in-human studies and novel combinations. 
Contribute to clinical trial operations and deliver expert medical oncology care within a multidisciplinary team. 
Engage in clinically focused translational research, leveraging cutting-edge platforms like genomics integrated into trials.
Opportunity to work within BaCT (Biostatistics and Clinical Trials) in the development of and conduct of investigator-initiated trials.

Essential Requirements: 

  • Medical Qualifications registerable by the Medical Board of Victoria
  • Completed at least two core years of registrar level of training in medical oncology
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team setting
  • Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with medical staff and other disciplines
  • Previous clinical trial experience an advantage

1. Provides high quality patient care using an evidence based, cost effective approach. 

 

  • Attendance to selected outpatient clinics and clinics in Day Ward
  • Completes all patient related documentation according to the Centre’s needs
  • Participates in after-hour and weekend cover roster for medical oncology
  • Liaises and communicates with the multidisciplinary treating team
  • Contributes to team meetings and educational activities
  • Actively and regularly participates in peer review patient related activities 
  • Participates in departmental research projects and audits
  • Works effectively with all internal and external stakeholders
  • Close liaison with specialist members of the medical oncology Unit 
  • Follows hospital policies and procedures 

 

2. Clinical Research Protocol Development

 

  • Enrols and manages patients on clinical trials
  • Participates in clinical trial management (if appropriate) 
  • Develops clinical research protocols, including preparation, submission to committees, analysis and manuscript preparation (if appropriate) 

 

3. Manuscript preparation 

 

  • Prepares and submits manuscripts (trial results, case reports, reviews, book chapters etc.) 

 

4. Translational Research development 

 

  • Participates in laboratory research activities (as applicable) 

 

5. Medical Oncology and Protocol Development 

 

  • Coordinates and develops/updates medical oncology protocol book/intranet site
