YOUR ROLE IN OUR FUTURE - MY Room Adolescent & Young Adult Oncology Fellow
 

Overview:

The Victorian AYA Cancer Service is a state-wide initiative aimed at improving the delivery of high-quality care for young Victorians diagnosed with cancer.

Embedded within the service, the The My Room Adolescent & Young Adult Oncology Fellow position offers a unique opportunity to gain specialised experience and training in AYA Oncology.  The fellowship provides broad exposure in the care of young people across multiple tumour streams including sarcoma, testicular cancer and brain tumours, as well as participation in the AYA transition program. A strong emphasis is placed on developing skills in developmentally appropriate, agespecific oncological care. The role offers excellent opportunities for AYA specific clinical experience, research, teaching and education.  There are also opportunities to lead research and/or quality improvement projects under the supervision of the Adolescent & Young Adult Oncology Leadership Team. The fellowship is open to both paediatric and adult oncology trainees and is suitable to be used for the Paediatric Developmental and Psychosocial mandatory training term or Non-core adult training requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provision of high-quality care to young people (aged under 39 years) and their families across a range of tumour streams including sarcoma, testicular cancer and brain tumours.
  • Participate in and contribute to AYA clinical services including the AYA triage meeting, transition and survivorship program.
  • Attend and contribute to relevant multidisciplinary meetings (AYA psychosocial MDM, Adult Sarcoma MDM, Brain MDM, RCH solid MDM, and others as appropriate).
  • Actively contribute to education of junior medical staff, nursing, allied health and students as appropriate

This position is ideally suited to paediatric or adult oncology advanced trainees with a strong interest in AYA oncology.

Position Summary

This Clinical Fellow position provides experience and training in Adolescent & Young Adult Oncology.  The fellowship is embedded within a range of tumour streams (sarcoma, testicular and brain cancer) with a focus on building the skillset for developmentally appropriate oncological care. There are excellent opportunities for AYA specific clinical experience, research, teaching and education.  There are also opportunities to lead quality improvement projects under the supervision of the Adolescent & Young Adult Oncology Leadership Team.

Essential Requirements

  • Medical Qualifications registerable by AHPRA 
  • Completed at least two core years of registrar level of training in adult medical oncology or paediatric oncology
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team setting
  • Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with medical staff and other disciplines
  • Previous research experience an advantage
  • Valid National Criminal Record Check and a Working with Children Check prior to commencing employment

Desirable Requirements

  • Academic standing: PhD and/or profile including 1st author in peer reviewed publications and presentations
  • Prior experience in AYA oncology

  • Timely and accurate completion of patient related documentation, including EMR encounters, outpatient documentation and any other required documentation relevant to enhancing continuity of care 
  • Actively and regularly participates in peer review patient related activities
  • Follows hospital policies and procedure
2. Clinical Research
  • Enrols and manages patients on clinical trials
  • Participates in AYA service development with potential involvement in program development, AYA research projects and clinical audits
3. Education & Training
  • Attendance at relevant educational activities 
  • Timely completion and compliance with all hospital mandated training
  • Active contribution to education of junior staff, nursing, allied health and medical students as appropriate
  • Active contribution to education and training programs as appropriate
