YOUR ROLE IN OUR FUTURE
The Anatomical Pathology Fellow role aims to train post-fellowship pathologists in one or more areas of subspeciality practice whilst integrating molecular diagnostics, contributing to a program of research and the development of a research project. Depending on the interests of the candidate, the areas of subspeciality practice may include melanoma, breast, sarcoma, head and neck, lymphoma, upper or lower GI and urology.

A fixed term, full time position for an Anatomical Pathology Fellow is available commencing late 2025/early 2026 for 12 months.

Essential Requirements
  • Medical Qualifications registrable by the Medical Board of Victoria
  • FRCPA (Anatomical Pathology specialty) or equivalent however registrars sitting final examinations in 2020 are also encouraged to apply
  • Commitment to the values and health care philosophy of Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre Code of Conduct.
  • Excellent skills and competencies as a clinician and good communication skills.
  • Registration with the Medical Practitioners Board of Victoria.
  • Commitment to continuous quality improvement.
  • Teaching commitment and skills in the areas undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education.
  • Ongoing involvement with and encouragement of research

Key Accountabilities

Reporting of histopathology and cytopathology cases
  • Authorisation of all assigned histopathology and cytopathology cases with clinically acceptable turn around times
  • Liaison with clinicians and participation in relevant meetings
  • Performance of cut up and fine needle aspiration biopsies when required
Review of outside cases requested by PMCI clinicians
  • Review of outside cases requested by PMCI clinicians
Research /Subspecialty/Molecular pathology training
  • Involvement in research leading to publications in high impact journals/Involvement in Molecular Pathology/subspecialty training including targeted supervised reporting (including review cases)
  • Attendance of relevant MDT meetings and conferences
  • Ongoing involvement with and encouragement of Research.
  • Commitment to continuing Education/Self development and Quality Improvement activities as supported by the Hospital’s staff education initiatives.
Registrar and pathology assistant supervision and training
  • Supervise Registrars, Pathologists Assistants and Laboratory scientific staff within the Pathology department
  • Regular attendance at Departmental, Hospital and Specialty educational meetings and audit meetings as required
  • Ongoing involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching/training
  • Ongoing supervision and training of Junior Medical staff
  • Participation in annual credentialing program
  • Teaching commitment and skills in the areas of undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education
Provision of high quality professional service
  • Promotion of best practice systems and processes
  • Implementing improvement initiatives appropriate to the specialty
  • Actively support compliance with national accreditation standards and continuous improvement objectives (RCPA QAP)
  • Participates in Clinical Reviews and encourages review of clinical outcomes.
