Join Peter Mac as a Grade 2 Exercise Physiologist The position is part-time,ongoing (45.6 hours per fortnight), directly reporting to the Manager for Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Exercise Physiology and Podiatry.

Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver evidence-based exercise programs to oncology patients across all stages of treatment and recovery.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimise patient outcomes.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to develop individualised exercise plans.
  • Support patient education and promote the benefits of exercise in cancer care.
  • Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Deliver high-quality care in oncological exercise physiology.
  • Support professional development, research, and quality initiatives to ensure evidence-based practice.
     

What we’re looking for:

  • Accredited Exercise Physiologist with ESSA registration.
  • Experience in oncology or chronic disease management (preferred).
  • Experience in a hospital (preferred).
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Passion for delivering patient-centred care.

Essential Requirements

 

  • Tertiary qualification in Exercise Science (Bachelor, Masters or equivalent)
  • Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) status
  • Registration with ESSA professional association
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in acute cancer care, oncology rehabilitation and/or palliative care
  • Excellent communication skills including computer literacy
  • Demonstrated commitment to  evidence based service protocols and quality programs
  • Reliable, flexible and conscientious approach to patient management and workplace issues
  • Advanced level of interpersonal and conflict management skills
  • Demonstrated organisational, time management, planning and priority setting skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to consult and adapt treatments to the special needs of oncology patients
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and continued education 
  • At least 3 years of relevant clinical experience

 

Desirable Requirements

 

  • Ability to consult and adapt treatments to the special needs of oncology patients (e.g. exercise prescription  in the context of lymphoedema, metastatic disease, neutropenia, anaemia, cachexia, etc)
  • Relevant peak body membership (ESSA, COSA, ALA, etc.) 
  • Valid Victorian driver’s license
  • Experience with staff/student supervision
  • Experience with research and quality projects

Key Accountabilities

1. Deliver high quality, appropriate care and education to cancer patients 

 

  • Deliver high quality, appropriate care and education to cancer patients, predominantly in outpatient acute and palliative settings (80% clinical load)
  • Manage inpatient and outpatient referrals
  • Liaise with LMOs, community based practitioners and other services
  • Assist in the development and refinement of clinical services for relevant tumour streams
  • Meet key performance indicators (KPIs) set for clinical load and assigned projects

 

2. Provide leadership and guidance through an oncology and patient focused framework

 

  • Supervise and support junior staff, students and assistants 
  • Contribute to junior staff and student development and training
  • Provide regular, structured supervision to allocated staff or students

 

3. Participate in and contribute to departmental, hospital and external activities including continuing education, quality assurance and research

 

  • Attend regular supervision sessions with senior staff 
  • Provide annual performance and professional development summary to supervisor and participate in regular reviews of progress
  • Regular participation in staff meetings, education sessions and in-services
  • Maintain, document and report course participation and attendance, including all mandatory hospital development courses 
  • Provide quality and research reports according to organisational and departmental requirements 
  • Complete at least 1 significant quality project with report annually

4. Responsible and accountable consumable and equipment usage

 

  • Report departmental stock levels of equipment and other consumables as used
  • Provide equipment and consumables according to departmental policies
  • Communicate changing resource needs to admin staff, assistants or line manager as appropriate
  • Ensure appropriate invoices are issued for sales or hires
  • Informs patients and their carers to any associated equipment hire conditions and costs

 

5. Accurate and timely documentation 
 

 

  • Regular and accurate submission of statistics 
  • Meet all departmental requirements for documentation standards
  • Same day (or within 24 hours) documentation of clinical notes (assessment, treatment, progress) and planning 
  • Contribute to departmental data bases as indicated
  • Maintenance of patient privacy and confidentiality at all times
