About the role

As an Employee Relations Consultant at Peter Mac you will play a crucial role in providing specialist advice and support on a wide range of employment matters. A key function of the role is to support enterprise bargaining processes, implementation of new enterprise agreements and other entitlement related compliance activities.

You’ll also be responsible for:

  • Supporting leaders in managing staffing and performance matters
  • Managing complex employee relations matters
  • Undertaking workplace investigations
  • Advising leaders on best practice HR and organisation policy and procedures
  • Providing specialist IR advice on industrial instruments and employment legislation

About you

You will be someone who has prior experience in an ER/IR advisory role, with a proven ability to develop effective strategies, solutions and interventions to address the full range of employee relations matters. Experience in the public health sector or a related industry would be highly advantageous.

Position Summary

The Employee Relations Consultant is a subject matter expert, providing specialist advice and support on a wide range of employment matters across Peter Mac. A key function of the role is to support enterprise bargaining processes, implementation of new enterprise agreements and other entitlement related compliance activities.

1.Enterprise Agreement activities Support enterprise bargaining activities, including:
  • Participating in sector reference groups, ensuring Peter Mac can influence the bargaining agenda
  • Assisting with ballot processes
  • Supporting the implementation of new agreement(s)
 2.Compliance and  improvement projects/activities
  • Provide critical support to the Manager Employee Relations and other teams with respect to ensuring compliance with all industrial instruments and legislation and consistency across remuneration frameworks.
This work includes:
  • Identifying potential compliance issues across the organisation and opportunities for improvement
  • Reviewing current contractual templates and making recommendations for requisite changes
  • Educating P&C and Payroll colleagues on entitlement related matters and ensuring that processes are robust to ensure accurate interpretation and processing
  • Conducting thorough research and investigations into alleged breaches of policy and/or employee entitlements, documenting findings and recommending appropriate responses to protect the organisation interests and ensuring fair treatment of employees
 3. Case Management
  • Provide education, coaching and support to line managers and staff to address interpersonal conflict, grievances, complaints and allegations at the earliest possible stage.
  • Provide advice support in relation to disciplinary and performance management processes
  • Provide advice and support in relation to complaints, grievances and investigations including Investigating claims of discrimination, sexual harassment, workplace bullying and other matters
  • Provide advice and support collaboratively with line managers and the Health, Safety & Wellbeing team) where employees are unable to perform the inherent requirements of their job due to long-term injury/illness or fitness for duty issues,
  • Conduct thorough research and investigations into alleged breaches of policy or employee entitlements, document findings and recommend appropriate responses to protect the organisation's interests and ensure fair treatment of employees.
 4. Employee/Industrial Relations Advice & Support
  • Provide specialist advice regarding the interpretation and application of legislation, industrial instruments, contracts and Peter Mac policies and procedures
  • Provide advice to support the management of industrial disputes and participate in internal and external dispute resolution processes or proceedings
  • Review and update policies and procedures, as needed, ensuring consistency with changes to relevant legislation
  • Liaise with external legal or workplace relations advisers as required
 5. Training and Project Support
  • Facilitate management training and skills clinics on employee relations issues to support fair and consistent application of policies and procedures and build internal and line manager capability.
