Reporting to the Executive Director, Business Ventures, you will drive strategic engagement and foster high-value partnerships across healthcare, government and industry sectors, both nationally and internationally.

 

As Director of Partnerships and Enterprise, you will:
•    Develop and maintain strategic partnerships that strengthen Peter Mac’s position as a global leader in cancer care and services.
•    Lead the development and coordination of major, complex partnership proposals across healthcare, government and industry.
•    Provide expert advice and guidance to senior executives, clinicians and researchers across the organisation.
•    Support and enhance Peter Mac’s engagement with key decision-makers and stakeholders to drive innovation, collaboration and improved patient outcomes.

 

About You
You are a highly accomplished relationship builder with strong strategic and commercial acumen. You bring significant experience working across healthcare, government and/or industry environments and have a demonstrated ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders.

 

Highly desirable:
•    Extensive healthcare, industry or government engagement experience.
•    A well-established network across the Victorian and Commonwealth healthcare landscape.

Position Summary

The Director of Partnerships and Enterprise is responsible for building and maintaining strategic partnerships with healthcare, government and industry both in Australia and internationally that align to the strategic objectives of Peter Mac. Additionally, the Director is responsible for the development and coordination of selected large and/or complex cancer healthcare, government and industry related partnership proposals across Peter Mac’s departments. 

The Director provides counsel and guidance to the Executive, Board and senior leadership on engaging with healthcare, government and industry partners, and executing strategic partnership opportunities that align with Peter Mac’s long-term objectives. Furthermore, the Director of Partnerships and Enterprise assumes a critical function in overseeing the advancement of Peter Mac’s strategic government engagement activities inclusive of major partnership opportunities with government. 

This role requires a combination of strategic insight, ability to influence external stakeholders and strong leadership skills. The role also represents Peter Mac and engages with other significant healthcare, government and industry partners to identify large scale opportunities. 

The Director of Partnerships and Enterprise will work closely with the Director of  Strategy and Director of Commercialisation to ensure continuing support of strategic activities within the Business Ventures Division during any periods of absence, and to maintain the ongoing development and management of major initiatives and partnerships locally, regionally and internationally for Peter Mac.

Skills

Essential requirements 
  • Well-developed strategic planning, project management, organisational and time management skills with the ability and flexibility to undertake a number of concurrent projects/programs and consequently perform under pressure. 
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills as evidenced by the ability to synthesis disparate data into coherent documents that accurately reflect the desired outcomes, for example, Business Cases, strategic plans, operational plans and grant applications. 
  • Demonstrated experience working with and influencing government decision-makers with a well-established network across the Victorian and Commonwealth governments. 
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills with a record of achievement in establishing and building strong productive teams and managing effective relationships with a broad range of individuals up to executive level in industry and government.
  • Substantial experience in guiding projects with cross-functional groups/individuals to ensure implementation of agreed targets/actions without necessarily using formal line management authority.
  • Demonstrated advocacy and negotiation skills in order to persuade others to accept a point of view and/or to secure physical and financial resources
  • Proven ability to think strategically, use initiative, and adopt an active approach to problem solving ensuring sensitivity and tact at all times but also with persistence and a clear focus on achieving results.
  • Strong relationship management skills to engage with a broad range of individuals. 
  • Demonstrated contribution to securing significant financial support from industry and government for healthcare specific development projects 
  • Proven ability to work as an effective member of a team. 
Desirable requirements 
  • Relevant qualifications and extensive (greater than 5 years) strategic partnership and/or business development experience in a healthcare, government, research or innovation environment or a combination of extensive relevant experience and training/education. 
  • Experience working in a tertiary healthcare environment. 
  • Experience in the establishment and/or operation of collaborative partnerships programs with industry, healthcare and academic partners in the Australian or international context. 

 

Key Accountabilities

Business Development
  • Lead the development and management of major healthcare, government and industry initiatives and partnerships locally, regionally and internationally for Peter Mac. 
  • Undertake a leading role in the management of major healthcare, government and industry-related projects, including proposal and business case development, negotiation, strategic advice on major opportunities, tender development and project management support. 
  • Support large scale opportunities for Peter Mac by guiding the development of teams with representation from partnership leads in Research, Education and clinical and diagnostic services. 
Strategic Government Initiatives and Engagement
  • Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive strategy for engaging with the Commonwealth and State Government and relevant entities to support the fulfillment of Peter Mac’s strategic objectives. 
  • Lead strategic government stakeholder engagement and continuously build a strong network across all levels of government, while being a key Peter Mac contact for government representatives. 
  • Lead in development and implementation of government advocacy efforts that that align to Peter Mac’s approved strategic objectives, as well as the provision of strategic advice and guidance to Peter Mac’s Executive and senior leadership on government policy and partnership opportunities.
Services and Strategy Development
  • Develop novel business models and services that leverages Peter Mac’s unique capabilities to secure strategic partnerships with health services, with a focus on opportunities that grow revenue and enhance reputation and impact. 
  • Develop and implement strategies and business cases for enhancing the commercial viability, performance, business feasibility and value of services and business units across Peter Mac. 
  • Support the development of pricing models, budgets and financial forecasting models to support decision making. 
  • Conduct strategic and market analysis of internal and external opportunities to conceptualise and develop commercially sound options to respond to current and emerging opportunities. 
External representation and relationship management
  • Create, facilitate and build strong relationships with healthcare, government and industry partners to facilitate new opportunities in relation to engagement and cancer care, research and education related matters.
  • Liaise with significant healthcare, government and industry leaders for the fulfillment of Peter Mac’s strategic objectives.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders throughout Peter Mac and with partner organisations and funding bodies to identify large scale opportunities.

  • Achieve ambitious KPIs and/or development plans and ensures all staff are supported to achieve individual and organisational goals. 
Policy Development
  • Support the development and implementation of procedures and processes to ensure that initiatives operate within the compliance parameters set by Peter Mac and external funding bodies which may include risk management, fiscal administration and intellectual property. 
  • Assist in the development of roadmaps for partnering priorities in order to position Peter Mac in markets of strategic importance.
